Description
I know it's been a long while since I touched Transformers Beyond, but after the long wait, here's Nexus Prime!!!Beyondverse Nexus Prime's design takes elements from his Fun Publications counterpart, his Aligned counterpart, and some of my own ideas.
A lot of you probably recognize the Enigma of Combination, but Nexus' other artifacts, the Omni Saber, the Chaos Edge, and the Cyber Caliber, were minor weapons used by him in the Transformers Prime prequel novel Exiles. There's not much to their descriptions, so I made my own designs for them.
This reference sheet will only focus on the combined form of Nexus Prime, not his components. I might do reference sheets of his five components later on in the future, but we're only talking about Nexus today fellas.
-
Overview: Nexus Prime is a curiosity among the Thirteen Primes - the Powerlink process is a good parallel to his separation and integration abilities as told in ancient legends, but they were derived from the Minicons and so he had no descendants, but he's mentioned in the legends all the same. It is said that with his Enigma of Combination that he is able to extend his powers to others, to literally make many become a single being known as a Combiner. He also possesses the ability to manipulate Rarified Energon, also known as "Super Energon", which is an essential base material for all Transformer life.

Personality: Known as the "Wizard of Forms", Nexus Prime was all about change and mutability. Powerful, proud, and frequently unpredictable even to those who knew him best, he was a daredevil with a chaotic inner energy. Nexus was also full of good humor and can even be a bit of a prankster at times. He was the "mad experimenter" of the Thirteen and is fascinated by changing states of matter and the creation of new elements in solar forges. His components weren't reluctant about recombining when separated because they were all joyous fragments. Nexus is extremely loyal to Primus and was no-nonsense about inner darkness like that which existed within some of his brethren.
Weaponry/Equipment:
- The Enigma of Combination: Possessed by Nexus Prime, the Enigma is not only capable of fostering unity and cooperation in the minds of sentient creatures in its proximity, but it can also unlock the "combiner gene" within a certain group of Cybertronians, bestowing them the ability of combination. This ancient tool can instantaneously merge any Cybertronians together into a combiner, enhance the power and mental stability of pre-existing combiners, or integrate new components into pre-existing combiner teams.
- The Omni Saber: The Omni Saber is one of Nexus Prime's many melee weapons, said to be "black as space" and reflects no light.
- The Chaos Edge: The Chaos Edge is one of Nexus Prime's many melee weapons, said to be used to absorb chaos energy and unleash it as a weapon against hordes of enemies.
- The Cyber Caliber: The Cyber Caliber is one of Nexus Prime's many melee weapons, a giant broadsword that could split apart into five separate weapons for his components to wield, or merge into a single exceedingly sharp blade. The sword was said to be able to repair or disassemble any device.
Abilities:
- Separation and Reintegration: As the first and greatest combiner, Nexus Prime was able to merge any robots into new combined forms at will or separate himself into his five independent components. When standing alone, his body seemed to shift or be overlaid with ever-changing forms and combinations he might take.
- Rarified Energon Manipulation: Nexus Prime (whether combined or separated) has the rare ability to generate and manipulate Rarified Energon, allowing him to control many purposes such as envelop himself and others in an impenetrable force field, forge powerful weapons, heal the most grievous of wounds, split sparks into multiple pieces without damage, and be able to communicate with non-sentient machines.
Bio: The first and greatest of all combiners, Nexus Prime was the seventh Prime forged from the AllSpark through the will of Primus. Together with the other members of the Thirteen Primes, he helped them build their shining home of Crystal City. During this time, Nexus was given by his own artifact constructed by Solus Prime, the Enigma of Combination, which allowed him to share his powers of combination to other Cybertronians by unlocking their combiner gene. He also collaborated with Micronus Prime to create the first Headmasters: regular-sized Cybertronians combined with Minicons, to serve as the Primes's frontal infantry in wars against hostile aliens.
The Thirteen Primes ruled Cybertron peacefully until Unicron freed himself from within the planet's core and sought to enact revenge against Primus and his Children. The Primes separated into groups as they began training the defenseless Cybertronian civilians into the Knights of Cybertron for their incoming battle against the Chaos-Bringer, with Nexus Prime as one of the "Free Agents", working closely with Solus Prime, Alchemist Prime, and The Arisen. When training the Knights, Nexus used the Enigma of Combination to give twelve of their number to combine into the mighty Dragonstorm. He also shared an affinity creation with Solus, which earned him the enmity of Megatronus Prime, who was developing romantic feelings for Solus at the time before they fully became conjunx endura. During the Unicron Battles, Nexus led a squad of combiners to distract Unicron, allowing The Arisen to journey into the dark god's interior and use the Creation Matrix of Leadership to seemingly destroy him. While the Primes were victorious, each of them were affected Unicron's darkness, Nexus included.
This eventually led to the Thirteen entering an era of aggressive expansion, which saw them colonizing many inhabited worlds and terraforming them to more resemble Cybertron, destroying the planets' original inhabitants in the process. Nexus Prime and his Titan, Devisiun, colonized a far-away paradise planet, however, the planet's unusual strong gravity caused Devisiun to crash on its surface and he used his remaining energy to save his passengers. Saddened by the loss of his friend, Nexus named the colony "Devisiun" in his honor.
Unicron's manipulations turned Nexus into something of a git really, believing that the Cybertronian race was superior over all other forms of life, organic life included, which he referred to as "weak parasites". He would be proved wrong as when the Primes attempted to colonize Antilla, Amalgamous Prime was killed by its natives. Megatronus Prime wished to enact revenge on the Antillans, while Prima wanted to establish peace talks. Realizing that their overconfidence resulted in the death of their brother, a humbled yet disheartened Nexus agreed with Prima. Tensions between the Primes would escalate when Liege Maximo and Megatronus Prime conspired with each other to overthrow Prima and started the First Cybertronian Civil War via the murder of Solus Prime. While Megatronus and his followers fled Cybertron in their crusade to end all non-Cybertronian life, Nexus assisted the others in capturing Liege Maximo before exiling him aboard Vigilem.
At the war's end, Nexus Prime participated in the final battle against Megatronus Prime, which occurred on an unimportant blue planet in the Milky Way's Orion Arm. While Nexus fought valiantly, he sadly slain by Megatronus, who fired the Requiem Blaster directly at his spark chamber, killing him instantly. In the aftermath, the remaining Primes and the Knights of Cybertron held a funeral for Nexus Prime, along with Prima, Solus Prime, and Amalgamous Prime, entombing their bodies within the Primal Basilica.
Nexus was survived by his spiritual descendants. These bots tend not to be readily identifiable, most often they resemble one of the other lineages to untrained eyes. They have no particular preference for alt-modes, generally choosing something that appeals to their personality or fulfils the needs of their function. The descendants of Nexus Prime are generally latent, characterized by certain genetic markers that, when matched with compatible markers in others, allowing the individuals to combine.
However, this would not be the end for Nexus Prime....
As his spark entered the afterlife, he was approached by Mortilus, the Cybertronian goddess of death. Mortilus informed Nexus that his time has not come yet, saying that he will be needed to help his people against the forces of evil, especially Unicron and Megatronus Prime. So Nexus allowed himself to be reincarnated, however, instead of being reborn as whole, he was split into his five components who remained scattered across the Cybertronian colonies. They remained apart for so long that each forgot their true nature, and no longer recalled being part of Nexus Prime or the Thirteen. Clocker and Mainspring wound up on Velocitron, where they remained slightly out of place as mechanics instead of the speed-driven racers who ruled the planet. Pinion ended up on Junkion, assimilating well into the culture. Chaindrive found himself on Cybertron, and eventually joined the Autobots and the Elite Guard led by Ultra Magnus to defend Iacon following the Great Exodus. Cannonspring joined the crew of the Titan Atlantis, which would crash-land on the planet Earth during its prehistory, living underwater alongside the Atlanteans in secret for centuries until joining Team Prime in the modern day.
While none of Nexus Prime's sub-selves remember their past, they all have no signs of age and retain their ability to manipulate Rarified Energon. They also have this inescapable feeling that they're missing a clue to some lost, legendary past to which they deeply believes that they were all linked to, a mystery that haunts them more than any other....
