Description Cockpit interior design of a sci-fi-themed unnamed space fighter.

It's still WIP, but this is how I imagined the display readouts:

Big display on left: Master System Display ~ shows all vital stats such as speed, shields, hull integrity, fuel, etc...

Big display on right: Multi Function Display ~ shows anything and everything. Currently showing information about the cargo ship seen ahead.

Two smaller displays in the middle: Fore and Aft scopes. I copied this design from an old Star Wars game for DOS. The left scope shows ships, stations, planets, etc... in front of you, up to 90 degrees in each direction. The right scope does the same for the back. The smaller circle within each scope represents 45 degrees in that given direction. This gives you a full 3D representation of the world around you, and despite sounding confusing to explain in words, it gives you an efficient view without using any sort of holographic 3d projection.

The Ejection handle is the yellow and gray striped handle at the center of the seat.

The joystick is self explanatory I think... It controls flight maneuvers and has a trigger for weapons, and buttons and a toggle wheel to control certain vital ship operations without need to take your hand off the stick. This is useful in a dogfight.

The throttle controls are on the left of the seat. The larger throttle controls engine thrust (and also has buttons for certain operations), while the smaller handle is used to control vertical landings and takeoffs.

The Heads-Up-Display (HUD) has basic vital info so that you do not need to take your eyes off forward during a dogfight, or precise docking procedure, for example. It's display uses "Live Multi-Spectrum Readouts" (made up name ) which is a fancy way of saying that the display hue and color changes to reflect what the pilot sees through the HUD. For example, if there is a dark area (such as space), that part of the display will be light colored, if there is a light area (such as the clouds on this planet), that part of the display will be dark.

Yeah... I'm a big nerd

Hey man, I have no clue if you are still active and this is from 2008, but this is perfect for a uni assignment I'm doing (Games design). I was wondering if you could give me permission to use it, with credit of course. but seriously, this is exactly what I am looking for.

Great job!
If I could suggest something, use darker colours, as right now it seems really bright.

I LOVE the HUD, especially how t outlines the objects in view.
GOOD JOB!!!

Wow can I use it as a ref for my starfighter cockpit design I need a Nubian (Nabooian) cockpit design with a ejcetion seat. Yours is awsome and really has the nubian instrament panle design. By the by Yours Welcomes fors the favs.

Thanx I'm working on an Aserathian A-1 for the Royal Aserathian Starfighter Corps. (RASC). From Teen Titans I know that the nubian N-1 aserathian A-1 are smillier names but thats the point there ment to be veriations of eachother.

:::Walks through screen into picture::

:::Transforms into a different person::

Rear Admiral Locke's eyes flicker over the LMSR display. He nods to himself subconsciously and it definitely looks like he has flown one of these more than a hundred times.

"Let's see ... T/F-84... This is a Shrike! Royal Aerospace Force Trans-solar Wing, Flight Five, or Six... Raging Lions, or Patricia's Phantoms... 2181, or was it '91? Endo/Exos, they were called. Borohydroxide laser pulse detonation engines and... Whoops, port side initiator is acting up, the mixture control is... I got it."

If you have a page in the comic with all the credits (written by... etc...), then perhaps there? I wouldn't want to draw attention away from the comic itself by having a credit right on the page.

It's pretty cool IMO. The F-16 has a similar control scheme just for HOTAS flying actually (stick on the right and throttle to the left).

This is really cool. You can make a movie just out of a cockpit view and a shit load of scenery pictures. Nice creation overall.

You wouldn't mind a critic would you?
The displays were sophisticated. But looking at the panels and stuff, stick on the right and throttle on the left? Dude, I think that's old school. Haven't heard of HOTAS? Hand On Throttle And Stick?

atomik99 In reply to VEADesign [2008-03-16 14:49:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment and the critique - I do welcome it!

I'm definitely not an expert in flight engineering (or specifically cockpit design), just a fan of it; so I might be wrong, but I always thought HOTAS was a way to control only the most vital operations that would need to be done quickly in critical situations (ie: a dogfight). If that is the case, then the flight stick and throttle does have controls to quickly manage these types of ship activity without taking your hands off the stick/throttle and without taking your eyes off the HUD.

However, I might not be understanding your comment correctly... If you are saying that the actual aesthetic design of the panels and controls is old school, then that is precisely the look I was going for

Great, you did amazing with it though.

What I meant with old skool is the throttle+stick thing... I mean, with digitaly sophisticated (probably touchscreen) displays, you have to have HOTAS and you won't probably need all those analog switches..

Still, I'd love to fly one of these.

Nice detail, very nice. It could use some shading though.

I keep thinking this is a wing commander cockpit.

Thanks for the comment and the

I originally intended on making this a black and white only blueprint of a cockpit, but gradually added color as it went along - hence the lack of shading. I do plan on adding more shading, details, and textures in the future.... if I can find the time

Well, I'm a big nerd too!
I really like the circular displays. And the HUD. It's particularly cool how the HUD is outlining and labelling the other spacecraft. I might have to steal that idea.
What did you do this in? MS Paint? It must have been a complete pain in the arse getting the perspective right. I feel for you.

I did this in Paint Shop Pro.
