Description I was being asked so much how I color my art.
Since I'm not Painter professional user ;moreover, I often change and find new tehcnic so I'm not sure how to make a tutorial.
Anyway I have 2-3 tools and 2-3 technics I usually use while painting in Painter 9.
This is the one how I draw and color.
It's not the best way and it's fit for someone who already know some tools in Painter (I'm lazy to point out where is anything)
If my English doesn't make sense, you may ask your question here. I'll try my best to answer.

Guest characters, Yoyo and Doc Croc (c) Greenlight Media.

Edit - About the Digital Water Color, I used Simple Water.

I agree, Painter really is useful in reproducing the effects of traditional media compared to a program like Photoshop. Thanks for showing us your way of doing things! Yoyo and Doc Croc look fun !

It all looks so shiny. I'm going to have to try this next time I color now. Usually I use a much simpler technique.

I think not so.
While I was shaded the color in Painter, those colors blend together instantly because I set its bleeding.
It's the one thing that does not exist in PhotoShop.

Anyway, in PhotoShop, I use a smudge tool to blend color, though it's not lookd same like Painter but it's OK in PhotoShop's way.

hmm really?

I've never used painter before ( I've used the crappy paint program that comes on every computer ever made though ) I've tried using the smudge tool before to blend ... it comes out pretty good if ya ask me... well if ya know what you're doing ... heh i tend to over smudge stuff buut oh well the blend tool always fixes i suppose

that stinks photoshop should really have a bleed function

Photoshop is more equipped for photo-editing, nothing can beat that.
Painter is for drawing and painting.

That's how I see it after using the two for years.
Paint in painter, do edits and other fine-tuning in Photoshop ^^

well now that would make sense

i personally use photoshop for everything cause its either that or paint for me (you know the crappy program already installed on like all computers)
heh but i have seen alot of people who do really awesome pictures in photoshop i wish i could do stuff like that.. i prob. could ( if i tried really really hard) buuut im sooo lazy

Which would be petter? Photoshop or Painter?

Both programs have their own benefit.
Painter is good for coloring like a real media such as water color, oil pastel, acrylic.
PhotoShop is the best for special effects and retouching such as dodge and burn, adjusting color and provides a varity of filters.

I usually color in Painter and retouch in PhotoShop.
