Description
While the Assassins had been able to defend Mesopotamia with relative ease over the centuries, the Templars grew stronger and stronger, and soon had a new weapon at their disposal. In 911 BC, the Templars founded the Neo-Assyrian Empire under the rule of their agent, Adad-nirari II. This empire swept its armies across Mesopotamia, slaughtering and destroying anything in their path. They conquered the land, kidnapping the unfortunate souls who weren't given the mercy of death after the Assyrian raids. They forced people to abandon all of the things in their lives (culture, language, families, etc) and forced them into labor under the Templars’ control.
The Assyrians used all kinds of propaganda to promote their image. They believed that if they ever stopped conquering people, the world would be destroyed by their gods. They instilled this fear in everyone they conquered, adding to the list of fear tactics that the Assyrians had under their belt. But this system had one obvious flaw. If your whole philosophy revolves around the idea that the apocalypse will come if you lose any battles, and then you lose a battle, then your entire worldview crumbles.
That eventually happened when the Assassins had inspired the conquered peoples to rise up against the tyrants. Several revolts and civil wars broke out across Mesopotamia. And, with the help of allies like Nabopolassar and Cyaxares, the Assassins eventually managed to kill the Templar king, Ashur-uballit II in 605 BC and topple the Neo-Assyrian Empire once and for all. The people of Mesopotamia were free from the Templars’ grip once again… for the time being at least.
The Assyrians weren't the only tyrants having their power stripped of them by the Assassins and their civilian allies. Almost a century later, another uprising would take place in a small city in the middle of a large peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea. The people there had grown sick of the oppression placed on them by their monarch. And the Assassins were going to help them liberate their city.
