Note: Please do not harass the original author or anyone who makes content related to this pasta. This review was simply made for entertainment purposes only. This is all based on MY OPINION as well.WELCOME BACK TO SAUCEZ REVIEWZ: POKEPASTAS SERIES!!!
Pasta Name: Forever Mine (Remake)
Publish Date: January 18, 2018?
Synopsis: After visiting the funeral of a local girl who passed away, the protagonist resumed aiming for Sky Forme Shaymin and named their hacked Shaymin Skye after the girl. Things became strange once they released Skye since they were unsuccessful in retrieving the Gracidea Flower.
Fun Fact: The screenshots were actually taken from a Nintendo DS.
Highlight: The visual representation
Quote: “You’re mine forever.” -Skye
I recommend reading the review of the original story first to understand some of the context for the most part.
While everyone is reviewing the Sinnoh Remakes, I'll be reviewing a SINNOH CREEPYPASTA REMAKE instead.
This pasta is using low-quality pictures as visuals for its story. Some people would assume that the low-quality of the images would make it look bad. However, I would argue that the low-quality images make the story more believable because the protagonist would be snapping pictures from their consoles/handhelds with another device as the camera or phone they used would be convenient for them there. Not to mention that it would seem like the images were less likely photoshopped compared to a clear image of a screenshot from the game. I'm not going to upload all of them on here though because I would rather you all read though the source material as well: Forever Mine Remake
So, it starts off with the protagonist mentioning how they live in a small town within a large community and everyone knows each other within the town. A girl recently passed away within their town and the news spread like wildfire. the protagonist said that they didn't know her personally but they knew her name though. despite this, she went to her funeral to pay respect since it was biking range.
Now people would comment stuff like "no average person would do something like that unless they are a saint." nobody's perfect, I can agree with that, but there are plenty of respectful people out there. we just sadly give all the attention to the negative aspects of humanity. A quick trip on the bike at a place that wasn't that far away ton pay respects isn't odd to think about, specially if is someone you've heard of
The protag watched the girl get buried as well as they wished they brought her flowers. Remember that specific detail by the way.
Around the time, they've been aiming for getting Sky Forme Shaymin for Pokémon Platinum since they were their favorite Pokémon. I would comment about how abrupt that felt with the transition, but I guess the author didn't want to have a cliched intro with "I was an average Pokémon fan/gamer..." which I'll let it slide for now.
So they caught a wild Shaymin that they hacked into the game with a Pokémon Modifier cheat code with Action Replay. Since they weren't creative with names, they named the Shaymin Skye after the girl that passed away.
They protag commented about how Skye fits Shaymin well especially because of Sky Forme Shaymin and flying in the sky. But little did they know, this caused strange things to happen with their game. They wanted to make Shaymin her sky forme and on the team 24/7 and play during the daytime and they taught Skye the move Fly illegal through cheat codes of teaching any Pokémon any TM they want.
So they go over to the the NPC in Floarama Town and they didn't give the player the Gracidea Flower needed to change Shaymin's form to sky forme. So, they were stuck with a land forme Shaymin knowing Fly. Eventually, they boxed Skye, forgot about them, and released them without thinking. Yeah, it tells that part of the story with a limited amount of sentences in the remake. I understand they needed room for the screenshots because let me explain, the pasta itself is in some kind of comic format with its visuals and screenshots with some summaries of what happened and how the author reacted in text. However, I feel the original did a better job at telling those parts of the story because it showed detailed expressions of the author's reactions which I think added onto the story, with the protagonist staring furiously at the screen because the NPC wouldn't give the Gracidea Flower and the protagonist reaction to releasing Skye, even though in the remake, they released them without thinking, so I guess that's fair. It's like they went from angry to disappointed within each version. Both are reactions expected for a player who missed out on that sort of event.
Next time they booted up the game, they got the message: save file was corrupted and the previous save file will be loaded. The protagonist was disappointed because of the amount of hours they spent since the previous save file has gone to waste. I can't say I can relate to this because I'm the type of person who saves like every 3 steps I take or after every battle including wild Pokémon battles in the game because I'm that paranoid.
When the protag loaded up the save file they were at an incomplete Seabreak Path. The south path of Route 224 was cut off and there was a featureless Shaymin on the edge. They checked the party and they have a Lv. 100 Dusknoir with only the move Follow Me.
The protag attempted to use their action replay to teach them fly to get off the island since they are pretty much stuck on it and isolated from the rest of Sinnoh from there. After putting in the code, they checked the bag and everything they had were gone except one Pokéball and an Escape Rope. Ironically the escape rope won't help you from escaping there since you are outdoors. A subtle way of saying "there is no escape."
The player went up to see if the actual, unhacked Shaymin was there at the Flower Paradise and surprisingly, Shaymin was there despite there being no cutscenes playing or getting Oak's Letter for the event. Its face though was obstructed by flowers and their pink flowers on its head were missing just like the one Shaymin earlier. I'm confused. what was the point of the other Shaymin earlier on the edge? Unless, there's a hidden message of it that I may figure out while doing this.
They spoke to the Shaymin: "I remember you. But... you don't remember me, do you?" The Shaymin attacked and the Protag's heart stopped at its name while it's featureless too. "Skye appeared!" Honestly, if a featureless Shaymin with a name that that I had for a save file that got corrupted and they said those things to me, that would be bone-chilling. That's creepy stuff to run into especially on a game that doesn't pulls these sorts of functions.
The protag knew something was wrong with the game but since they were taking pictures, they went to document it in full.
Good motivation rather than just plain curiosity. Also, one detail I like, I know it's probably a coincidence but the pasta doesn't start off with many pictures at first but it started to pick up on the amount as soon as the save file got corrupted which shows that the protagonist was documenting what was going on because of confusion and unexpected events, so they decided to continue which makes this fine detail of the pasta good and believable.
Dusknoir only knew Follow Me so it would be useless for the fight. So the protag tossed the Pokéball instead. Shaymin was actually caught. The player though assumed and questioned if it was rigged. no triumphant music played either which increased their suspicion. Yeah, I can see why you would think it was rigged. One Pokéball coincidentally there for you, throwing it at a Mythic Pokémon with full HP on the first try.
They went to check the summary of their newly caught Shaymin but the game froze on them. When restarting the game, a message popped up: "My heart is corrupted. Please save me." Their save file was gone and replaced with the trainer's name being SINNER. The protagonist felt ill at ease by this living in a religious community. Oh boy. We're getting into religious aspects now.
Starting the game, the player was playing as the featureless Shaymin this time instead of the usual human protagonist and they were inside of Lost Tower as well. Checking the party and summary, the same Shaymin was there and knows the moves Fly, Scary Face, Fake Tears, and Spite.
Attempting to leave the tower, a message popped up: "Today's the day." That's what I told myself when I wanted to work on this review only to procrastinate more. It would push Shaymin back from the exit. they had no choice but to ascend up the tower. There were no random encounters nor trainer interactions (they wouldn't talk to the Shaymin either). I don't think anyone would want to talk to a faceless Shaymin. They got to the top floor and an unusual man and woman NPCs were standing there saying "There's nothing left to say." There was a staircase there despite not supposed to be there which lead to the tip top of the tower. There was a scripted cutscene going on and the Shaymin was off the edge of the tower. "It's a long way down... are you ready?" The protag selected no to get out of the situation. "You held back for long enough. It's time to go." "SINNER used the Escape Rope." The same Dusknoir appeared.
The protag was concerned at first but then they remembered the Dusknoir only knew Follow Me which is harmless. The protag realized if they let SINNER faint they could go to the last Pokémon Center and escape the tower. Even though that's a clever plan, but if your save file's time is 0:00 and it reset your save file in a way, wouldn't you respawn at your house with your Mom since you wouldn't have gone to your first Pokémon Center stop yet? Regardless, you would be escaping from the tower with the following outcome. They had SINNER use Spite to reduce Follow Me so that Dusknoir would eventually run out of PP and use Struggle to OHKO SINNER. Smart idea, Protagonist. In a bad creepypasta, it would have the protag overreacting about the over leveled Dusknoir which thankfully doesn't happen and the player makes smart plans instead.
Only one problem occurs as a textbox said after using Spite: "There was no target..." Protag being disappointed, deciding to experiment with SINNER's move set until Dusknoir ran out of PP. Follow Me has a default number of 20 PP, so it would take 20 turns until they would start using Struggle.
They chose Fly. SINNER flew up into the sky but then this happened: "SINNER kept going and crashed!" and "SINNER fainted" from the crash. But they weren't the only thing that crashed though because the game crashed as well as soon as Shaymin's fainted cry played making the screeching sounds ear-grating
That would make me jump too.
After taking a break from playing since the player needed time to digest from what they just witnessed, they came to a conclusion where ghosts are real and Skye was the same girl that passed away because of the same name. It sounds insane if they didn't have the pictures to prove it. Seems like a stretch for a recent dead girl's ghost to end up in a video game cartridge because you gave them the same name and especially since you didn't know them very well. But, I guess that's kind of the point of this for an unfamiliar person's ghost to show you a message, so go on... Also, I'm getting NES Godzilla and Abandon Lonliness vibe from this.
The protagonist choked back tears and was scared, questioning why Skye wanted them to see this. They wanted to put down the game but they felt like they had to see the rest of the message Skye was trying to send them. They hope she'd pass on and find peace if they complied and listened. That makes way more sense than the usual "out of curiosity".
Message: "I can't fly. I tried to." The protag was the Shaymin again and was found on Spear Pillar with the staircase to the Hall of Origin. The exit was gone so they had to proceed to Arceus up the stairs.
A battle started with Arceus of course and Arceus was Lv. 100 instead of the usual Lv. 80.
In the pictures, it has SINNER at Lv. 14 with 0 HP and fainted but still battling somehow.
Just like with the Dusknoir battle, Shaymin was already on the field and she was bleeding this time. The protag felt cornered within the game. They tried to use Fly, but it said "you can't use that here." Attempting to flee, it said "Can't escape!" The Arceus used Judgement but luckily missed. "I'm not ready yet." the textbox said. The game made the protag automatically fled the battle and the screen faded to black afterwards. More textboxes appeared, "I'm not ready. I'm not ready. I'm scared."
They ended up in the Distortion World with no exit portal but an escape rope was found but they got the "there's a time for everything, but not now." message when using the escape rope. Flying attempt failed because it said "There's nowhere to fly to." After messing around and experimenting, the protag gave SINNER the rope to hold as an item.
The game crashed yet again with ear-piercing screeching. The protag inhaled sharply, wondering if they touched a nerve from the game or the dead girl's ghost. Starting the game up again, the characters' name was now Skye. They were at Floarama Town at the Pokémon Center this time. All of their Pokémon stored in their PC was still gone. They tried to heal Shaymin at the center, but Nurse Joy said "Your Pokémon is already perfectly healthy." despite having the fainted state. The protag sarcastically commented about how "perfectly healthy" their Shaymin is. That Shaymin could be blown into bits and that Nurse Joy would still think they're healthy at that rate. I mean, the Shaymin has fainted, is bleeding and has a rope around her neck. That's perfectly healthy alright, Nurse Joy. Also, I think how Escape Rope was used in this pasta was kind of clever with being used as a nuisance rope. as simple as it is, I don't think I've read any other pokepastas that have that type of concept in them.
So they went outside and talked to the blonde NPC outside which is the NPC that gives you the Gracidea Flower and they say this "You should always give flowers to someone who has passed away. It's rude not to." The player obtained the Gracidea this time. The protag felt some guilt afterwards. Do you guys remember that one small detail in the very beginning? The protagonist wanted to bring flowers to the funeral in real life for the dead girl but didn't have any with them at the time. That is clever. and correct me if I'm wrong that what the Blonde NPC says is actual dialogue in the game which makes it even better. See how it all connects together?
They tried to use it on Shaymin (Skye) as a metaphorical way of giving the flowers to the dead girl, Skye. It wouldn't work though with the following message: "That won't help me." Where did the blonde NPC go though? Look at the previous two pictures. Skye replaced the NPC. Unless, that's a metaphor for the dead HUMAN girl since Skye has been based on her. So, what if the dead girl was blonde?
They went to the Valley Wind Works and walked around the tall grass to encounter a wild sky forme Shaymin. No moves could be selected. It was a scripted battle. Wild Shaymin used Reflect! Skye's rage is building! My theory on Skye's rage is that they are jealous of the Sky Forme Shaymin because they are Sky Forme and can fly while Skye can't.
Skye used cut! She hurt herself in her own confusion! The wild Shaymin fainted in one hit despite the game saying Skye hurt herself in her own confusion.
Back on the overworld, a pile of Sky Forme Shaymin parts could be found on the grass. Interacting with the pile, a message said "please put me back together." The player selected yes and the screen faded to black.
Skye appeared with Sky Forme Shaymin's ears and flower while the trainer was gone now. They checked the summary of Skye and Skye's cry was a distorted mix of both forms. Back to the overworld, a textbox appeared with what seemed like the Skye sprite was looking right at the player.
"Can you hear me?"
"Thank you for caring about me."
"I can fly now."
"Because..."
"I love you."
The protagonist's heart skipped a beat and hands shook in fear.
"You must care about me too, right?"
"So... I'm going to stay with you."
"I won't leave, not without someone who loves me."
"Will you fly with me?" Yes | No
The protagonist selected no because they didn't like where this was going.
"..."
"No? Hmm... How curious. You must've misunderstood. Since when were you the one in control?" Oh, oops... wrong series. I'm just kidding. Come on, I can't be the only one who got the same vibes. Not saying this is ripping it off though. xD
What actually happens:
"I'll wait for you."
"I'll change your mind."
"You're mine now."
"You're mine forever."
The game froze afterwards... The protagonist had enough of all of this.
They went to drop off their Pokémon games at the nearest GameStop. They had enough of hearing her.
The protagonist did question and had one strange feeling afterwards though...
The protagonist felt like she (Skye) was somehow still there with her even after getting rid of the games.
The end.
Now, it may seem like the ending feels underwhelming at first glance but remember, Skye is a ghost girl. It does feel a bit sudden, but when it's creepier when you put more thought into it because it's bone chilling to think about. They got rid of the games but even that didn't get rid of what caused the strange events as in there is no escape from Skye because the protagonist is HERS FOREVER.
Further thoughts:
I really don't have much else to say. I don't want to drag this longer than it needs to be. I think the story was solid with connections with the recent passing of a neighborhood girl, the foreshadowing with the flowers was good, the visuals are well-done and add onto the experience. The only issue I have was I feel like creepy factors-wise, the original was better at doing because Skye felt more insane in a desperate way while this version, Skye was sad in a desperate way. I guess that was the intent, maybe to avoid a couple of cliched tropes with murderous and insane Pokémon? But I did say in my review of the original that it took some of the tropes to a different direction to make it more unique.
While the original gives off Pokémon Dead Channel and Prevention of Evolution vibes, this version gives off Abandon Lonliness vibes. I think this did what Abandon Lonliness tried to do: display symbolism and give off messages using the game mechanics. Abandon Lonliness (even though fans have requested to give a re-evaluation) was just a bit too repetitive with using the same mechanics with the signs over and over again which ruined the reading experience for me, making it feel boring if anything. Forever Mine remake goes to through each message Skye is trying to give to the player and reader in a steady pace which is what I like. I guess I'll give Abandon Lonliness another chance sometime later.
So, do I think this pasta is a WINNER or a SINNER?
...
It's a WINNER, as in it's a FRESH PASTA!!! Obviously. I mean, there were lots of effort put into the pictures and evidence to make the reading experience wonderful and have the pasta more believable.
My rankings for the reviewed PokéPastas so far (from best to worst, top to bottom):
1. Easter Egg - Snow on Mt. Silver – Fresh
2. Forever Mine (Remake) - Fresh
3. La Condena de Milotic – Fresh
4. Hypno's Lullaby – Fresh
5. Forever Mine (Original) - Fresh
6. Strangled Red – Dried
7. Zombreon - Dried
8. Lost Silver – Dried
9. Creepy Black – Dried
10. Abandon Lonliness - Spoiled
11. Pokémon Dead Channel – Spoiled
12. Prevention of Evolution (Original) - Spoiled
13. Milotic's Revenge – Spoiled
14. Leaf Green Beta Scene - Spoiled
5 Fresh Pastas | 4 Dried Pastas | 5 Spoiled Pastas
I appreciate all of the visuals and effort put into them as well to make it as realistic as possible. I put it below Snow on Mt. Silver because even though I think the story and visuals were wonderful, I wish the pasta had a little more creepy factors. In context, it can be creepy with the inevitable ghost haunting coming from the interactions within the game even when the games are no longer there anymore. But, it's a close second. I think if Skye was gave more creepy vibes, it would've been number one. The pasta does feel more unique with its story but at the same time, I think it's kind of not as impactful for the reader in a few areas with the its desperate sadness with Skye and the dead girl over adding more creepy factors. Overall, it's great for the most part.
Thank you sparklingdemon for allowing me to review both versions of your pasta. They were pretty good reads. Good job on Skye. I wish Skye got more attention, but oh well, hidden gems are usually the best anyway. xD
Hint for next review: I'll let you guys vote on the following selections down below.
Absol - A perspective in an interesting, realistic portrayal of what it would be like if Pokémon were real and it especially focuses on Absol.
Top Percentage - A HGSS pasta based on Youngster Joey and his Rattata.
Glitchlett - Yellow version pasta of a creepy glitch involving Diglett.
