Oh. My. Goodness.
I was really only aware of 4-point perspective. To add a fifth!?! This is an amazing tutorial. Also, Its nice to see a tutorial on how to do this with traditional means.

Any tip for how to "calcule" the grid curve inside the circle?

This is great! Now I want to try it!
However, I'm a little confused about drawing the curved lines. Are the axis points the same difference apart?

awlaux In reply to Sophia-Jonquille [2011-03-27 05:55:16 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
And no, the distance between the axis points don't matter. Not unless you want to measure-out some sort of grid. Otherwise, the important thing is just to have the compass point resting somewhere, anywhere, on the axis, to get a curve in the circle.

Oh man. I was reading all kinds of tutorials and trying to "get it"-- My problem is that everything is visual for me. As soon as I see a drawing applied to the grid, I understand perspective in a snap. But all the tutorials I was finding were just drawing the circle grid-- and stopping there!!! It was driving me crazy! I just wanted to throttle them and go DRAW SOMETHING IN THE GRID MOTHERFUCKER!!! ANYTHING!!! ONE BOX! PLEASE! Um, long story short, your wonderful succinct explanation--and pictures, hallelujah, fucking pictures!--are a welcome change.

At the risk of sounding silly and air-headed, OMAIGAWD. Trying to do 5pt was like beating my head against a brick wall - now I think I might actually GET it! Thank you so much! Totally give you a holler once I get back to this!

wow. im studying interior design, and weve never learned this before! thank you for this tutorial. if this ever pops up, ill be prepared.
i have a question about the grid. do i use the same measuring concept that id use for any other perspective grid, or is it different? and where do i measure it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
awlaux In reply to SKmeows [2010-07-12 01:34:55 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for the comment! I'm not really sure about measuring the grid. I guess you would measure it in much the same way that you would for first, second, and third point perspective. I knew that lines would be farther apart when they are in the middle of the circle, and they would gradually get closer together as they approach the edge of the circle, but I actually didn't measure anything here. Maybe I should come up with a new tutorial?

eh. i guess ill figure it out.
what i really want to know is how to use forshortening (perspective) techniques on 'live' subjects. as in non-inanimate objects.
that concept -really- escapes me.

I've been looking for something like this for a while, but most of the sites I tried on google, didn't give me ANYTHING like this.
It gave me a stupid, and useless image (not even of the perspective I wanted) and didn't even explain anything to me.
And your original image alone, the one that you made BEFORE this tutorial, was more help in just the image than all the searching I had been doing.
And to top it off, the tutorial. It's in plain english, nothing fancy, and you illustrated it so accurately.
I can't thank you enough for making this, I know it's been a while, and I'm probably SUPER late on this little wagon, but regardless, to an artist as inexperienced as I am, this is just great.
Thank you so much.
Stay awesome and have a nice day!

This is really great. I actually didn't even know there was such a thing as 5 point perspective. I thought it stopped at three. That shows how little I know. Thanks for making this. I will definitely find it useful.

Interesting... I always thought that there were only 3 types of perspectives. I never knew there was a 5th! Well, more like I never knew about the 5th perspective, so this is an eye-opener for me. Is there a 4th perspective by any chance?

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial, will come in handy, I'm sure!
