Description Raised in the fighting pits of the planet Dis, Wrul spent many years as a gladiator and slave. As he got older, he won more and more matches, though his injuries took a toll on his body. It seemed with every victory, more and more of his body was replaced with machine parts. Not that Wrul minded, after all his cyborg enhancements had built in weaponry which made him even more formidable in the fighting pits.

Finally, after 10 long years spent in the gladitorial arena, his success was rewarded by his emperor. Wrul was made the Empress' Champion and his duty went from providing entertainment for the blood hungry masses to protecting the Empress' life and honor. Little did he imagine this appointment would propel him to the apex of the empire's political structure. The Empress had long grown tired of her husband, but dared not move against him, lest he have her killed. Using her wiles, she manipulated the brutal, arrogant gladiator into assassinating the Emperor and assuming control.

As the head of a warlike interstellar race, Wrul enjoys conquest and sincerely believes everything he does is his idea. It never occurs to him that every move he makes benefits the Empress as she plays on his ego for her own benefit. She is the insidious, subtle power behind the throne and the clever among the political elite recognize it, but the wise never mention it...for that will get you killed.

Wrul is used to winning conflicts and that is why he absolutely hates the star hero Valiant, as well as his companions, Eon, Outkaste, Sundown and Aldebaran. Those starfaring adventurers have foiled his plans for conquest on multiple occasions and being beaten is something he cannot abide. He knows one day there must be a final reckoning between him and the heroes, but he needs to gather more power first.

Wrul is a hulking creature over 7 and a half feet tall and weighing almost a 1000lbs. Like all gladiators of Dis, he is tremendously strong and skilled in combat. He is blood thirsty and cruel in the extreme, but he isn't foolish. He has spent his entire life studying combat and tactics and has learned to be patient when he needs to be.

He can press over 100 tons and can withstand tremendous damage. He is infested with nanites that repair both his cybernetic and organic components and his cyborg enhancements lend him a great deal of power. He can project ionized plasma or force beams, survive in space, launch monofilament nets that can restrain and damage targets and he can generate tractor beams. He possesses sensory abilities including infrared senses, radar, radio communication, gravity sensors, seismic sensors and more.

His greatest power is the military might he has at his disposal as the Emperor of Dis.

Just visually this guy's impressive. The diagonal sash throws off the usual half-borg look enough to make it unique; it doesn't hurt that the mechanical bits are well executed.

I like this, he's not just a muscle-bound half-wit puppet. He's intelligent, but arrogant enough to not realize he's being manipulated. Looking forward to seeing the Empress. Please tell me she has an impressive rack of horns herself...

Oh yeah, the Empress will make Maleficent weep with joy when it comes to her horns. As for her relationship with Wrul, I totally wanted them to be the Antony and Cleopatra of super-villains.

A dynamic that just doesn't happen often enough.

Well, I don't really want to throw shade at the creative genre I participate in, but, most master villains in comics have their roots in the mindset of prepubescent boys. Physical power means everything and girls are icky. Thus the majority of the "big villains" come off as asexual or, like many super-heroes the women in their lives are simply mannequin-like arm candy, nothing more. Comics have gotten much more sophisticated over the years, except when it comes to gender dynamics.

I guess you could look at it that way, but Darkseid is a brillaint inventor and definitely isn't being manipulated by his followers, where Wrul is a brutal fighter and a decent general but his political agenda is being more or less dictated by the "serpent in his ear".
