Description [WARNING: HUGE FILE! DOWNLOAD or FULLVIEW for best results!]

Been wanting to make some tutorials for a while now, and since I'm starting to learn things that might be helpful to others, I figured I'd share my knowledge.
But keep in mind, I'm still learning myself, so I will try and answer any questions you have about the tutorial itself. I am not an expert and do not claim to
be one. If you're having full-blown tech issues with XPS, then consider consulting *XNAaraL for help, as he is the one who built the program off of Dusan's
XNALara. Otherwise, I will try to help any way I can. :]

Also, I apologize if it seems like I'm taking the Mesh Modding For Dummies approach. :] I'm just trying to be as detailed as possible and give reasons why you're doing the things you're doing to help you better understand and learn.

Note: Other MeshModding tasks, such as adding legs, a torso, head, etc. work basically the same.

Easy way I do it is click the character I want to use (First make sure two characters poses are reset then click on either character and go to "Options" and then "ADD To" when that character's wrist bone is selected and then click on the 2nd character and click on their "wrist bone" to attach your first character to the 2nd one BINGO! (whether it's left or right wrist it's up to you) be warned that if you working with multiple poses your first character will stay attached to that 2nd one

Thank you for this tutorial, it's very helpful but I have a small problem.

The model I have (Alex Shepherd) doesn't have an empty space when his hair is removed, it's like a clumped mass that clips through the new hair I put on.
I have blender and just want to know if I can fix this through there? Imma a noob and just want some general directions.

Please and thanks. ☺

Oddly enough, when I loaded my model after I completed these steps, not only was there no hair, but light in her eyes disappeared! And yet, I can see that the bones created when I attached the hair are there. I wonder why the hair isn't visible, despite the bone name suggesting it's there....

I'm able to add/remove some stuff with some models but on some models I get an error when I try to save it.
The error says:
Could not save "\generic_item.mesh"
Could not find the file "\default"

I thought it was referring to the default pose so I tried unchecking the "store pose as default pose" option but it didn't work. I don't know what kind of "default" it's looking for but I am able to save other models just fine.

But I am able to save the model in its current folder though....weird...it's like it has a super hidden file or something.

When I tried attaching the hair to the model it says "Error: Could not attached a resized item to a other character. Save your model, reload the model, attach the item again." And this is my second try, i've followed the tutorial EXACTLY and it keeps saying this when I get to the "attach to..." part

xkelbix In reply to VenomousThorns [2016-03-01 21:41:00 +0000 UTC]

Don't know if this would be any help after all this time but what i did is resized the hair then saved it as genericitem. This saves the size you've adjusted it to (or at least it did for me) then add that model.

"Could not attached a item to posed character.
Save your pose, reset the pose. attach the them and reload your pose"

This is happening to me, when I try to attach an item (for example a weapon) in lara.

This isn't the response you want, but some models just don't work in XPS. If you're getting the "string" error, then I can't help. I've never been able to get past that one myself.Β

If the string error is not what you're seeing, then offer some more information (or a screen cap), and I'll try to help.

For some reason i do not have the option to make 'items optional' i am sort of new to this thing

aydean In reply to MissAdaWong [2015-04-30 02:43:16 +0000 UTC]

Are you using XPS? XNALara, the original program, does not have this option. You'll need XPS, recoded and updated by XNaraL.

Hello again, I'm trying to put a hair to a model and every time I add it to the model the hair goes elsewhere. It says here it stays where I placed it but after saving the model and reloading it, it stayed where it was after I added it which was out of place.
Any ideas why this happens?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

BBDannyR [2015-04-17 20:44:10 +0000 UTC]

I've been doing it wrong with the positioning, hahaha.
No wonder the item I keep trying to attach ends up nowhere I want it to be.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial.

Ok, so I actually managed to get pretty far on this.. However, like always, I've run into a problem and am wondering if you can help. (hoping actually! xC) I follow all of the steps up to the part where you have to add the hair to the model. When i choose the "head neck upper" to handle the hair, the hair goes wayy up above the head and.. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong..Β

coolrenandstimpy In reply to MySexySwitchblade [2015-04-07 16:44:47 +0000 UTC]

I recently came across the same problem as well.
Can't finish any model right now because of this problem.
Did you find a sollution yet?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XNAngel In reply to coolrenandstimpy [2015-11-02 01:39:14 +0000 UTC]

Found a solution, ( took me all night to figure it out BTW XD )
when the hair is nowhere near the head, just select the root bone in the hair and reposition it back to the head again don't use the coordinates just use the move option after positioning the hair back, save it as genericitem again but this time click the "store pose as default pose" option that way hair will stay at the head the next time you load it

Hope this helps

Hmm, after I opened up the model that I edited the eye color (eyeirises_diffuse)Β expand. Have you ever come across this problem? I know this is 3 years ago but I just thought I'd try my luck and ask.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

aydean In reply to satida [2015-01-14 23:53:23 +0000 UTC]

By "expands," I'm assuming you mean "the white of the eyes disappears" or "the iris grows wider"? Either way, my guess is you edited the file wrong or resized it somehow which you NEVER need to do. Send me a screenshot if you want, and I might be able to offer better advice.Β

Thanks for the guide! Totally worked! Renaming the bones was a pain in the ASS. I combined a base bald model and hair taken straight from another model instead of a model with just hair so there was a lot of bone renaming @_@
