Description
FOR COLORIZING LINEART AND STUFF!Um I know a lot of you are going to ask what the purpose of this is, its for when you wanna colorize a lineart without affecting the rest of the picture...or moreso for me, when I finish a picture I add lighting effects and layer effects and the such to just the character in the forground and like it to go over the lineart blah blah. Needless to say its a good thing to know how to do.
for people just coloring under a lineart without wanting to color the lineart note, you can simply set the layer to multiply and color under it
ALSO! um for people who want to try another method there is a way to do this using channels. I personally think its easier to do my method but some people think this is easier. You can go to [link]

Actually, its far simpler - just go to the extract function, hilight everything except for a little blotch of the background (white). Then click the force foreground thingy and set the colour to black, et voilà. Background is gone in a matter of seconds.

oO the color of my lineart changed slightly. Wierd. Anyway um its a bit simpler *nods* but I woudlnt say MUCH simpler. Since both versions dont take long at all. But thanks for sharing...honestly just saying "use this method" like you did before without explaining it like you did now...did nothing for me. I'll probably forget how in like a day though XD

*nods* I cant really place why and its not a huge change. But the lineart turns out just a shade lighter when you use your method. oO...anyway ^^ *pokes* you should make a tut of your method for peoples too

this ways a lot simplier than it looks too ^^ Like the "channels" method I know is simple coz i used to know how to do it but when looking at tutorials it just seems more complicated to me. I think its just what we learn first seems easiest...since there really isnt that much difference in steps. This method takes me under a minute XD;

I use a channels technique, but it's simpler (to me) than the one you linked to. [link] <-- this is what I use. =^_^=

Just what I was looking for! Tis very helpful and straightforward. I've looked at a lot of other tutorials, and they always assume you already know how to make your lineart on a layer by itself. =__=;

*nod nod* I posted this one because I'm going to remake one of my old tutorials that requires having lineart on its own layer to work.

Now if only I could draw so that my lines are bold and dark and solid and not all fuzzy like they ALWAYS ARE. It's freaking 0.5 lead! WHY DOES IT DO THIS TO ME?!

I use microns to ink and it's STILL made of fail! I wish it were summer so I could practice obsessively... And get shipped off to school and forced to learn how to drive. Or at least take the test. I haven't practiced at all. D:
Dang, from lineart to summer school driving class. What the heck?

Okai, so now what do you do if you have a lineart problem? Meaning that... I can't do lineart. xD! I'm rats at PhotoShop, and when I scan I get sketchyness. So if I were to do the dotted lines bit, basically, I'd pick up a lot of mid-grays.
Any ideas? Thanks.

BananAdopt In reply to YouthoughtIwasdead [2007-03-24 06:09:00 +0000 UTC]
um have you ever used levels to clean up a lineart? You go to I believe its image/adjust, levels. You can usually eliminate a lot of mid grays using that.

I don't know. I don't have PS myself, but when I did have it I was trying it out, and everyone told me I had to trace/clean up the lines manually and my hand isn't steady enough for that. =/
