Stefano,
another "masterly" composed shot...
you know I am a "rule" guy, and the rule of thirds is here at its best
"un bémol" maybe, the typo around it bothers me a little, of course a title is necessary, and credits is a must have to inform & protect your work, but I am a fan of minimalism and the details (snow, lights and branchs) matter more than anything else
the solution? I'll give you my solution, how about doing differently than other photographers?
for example (just an example) --> Six lights in Turin by Stefano Barni
get my point?
cheers bro

hello brother ahmed, thank you for your input. coming from a true digital artist, it is truly valuable. i think i get your point, yes, a title like the one you suggest would add something to the image. maybe i could get rid of borders, too. well, you say are a rule guy, but i am a computer guy, so i love things to be well ordered and classified.
i have these three ongoing series, jazz, on stage and turin. when i started, i decided to make them recognizable through some formal detail. it's the border and the typeface. while on stage and turin follow no rules as to concerns the image format (most of the images are 2/3 formatted, border included, but there are panos also, and they can be bw or color images), the jazz series has some ingenuous conceptual ambition, so the format is fixed: 2/3 image (border excluded) and bw strictly.
as you can see, i added some formal aspects that all together -i admit- can be a bit heavy. but you're an artist, so you appreciate rules but you see far beyond the formal appearance of things.

stefano,
when I wrote "masterly composed" its wasn't only a complement, that you ignored but also my opinion
the rue of 3rds is perfect here (check my link)
and this is how I would do it, if ever you become a great photographer and that you hired me to do the repetitive tasks (while paying me millions)
[link]
again, like most "opinions" its subjective
your opinion?

i "ignored" your compliment in my answer because i was distracted by the speech about the title (sorry), but believe me i appreciated it. you are always generous with me
checking your link, i realized that the street lamp placement the thirds rule in height also and not just in width. when i took the shot, i composed the image so that the lamp was one third of the width on the left; about the height, i only adjusted it so that it looked good to me, no measuring (and my camera have no third marks on the viewfinder).
thank you for finding it out, you have quite an eye to discover features in my photographs, i did not notice myself.
i agree with you that a "nice title" would be more meaningful than "turin - counter" and the different placement of the name, as suggested by you, could more elegant. however, as i said, i do want my series to be coherent in their format and thus recognizable.

Stefano, I wasn't asking you to change it
just gave you my "advanced critique"
if I was a gardener I might of told you that you focused on the wrong branch...
cheers bro

yes i know you wasn't asking to change. you showed me your opinion, and i am grateful of that for at least two reasons: it is *your* opinion and you spent some of your time for me.

and i just answered that i share your thoughts to some extents, and explained why i made certain choices about formatting my photographs.

i think that we both are a bit richer now, since you can give me your ideas without losing them, and i can give mine in turn, still keeping them in my mind
