I should one day update the space brushes I made myself, been living off the same ones for years though I don't bother using brushes for "solid" objects like asteroids since I know I still have to paint the details in anyway, I usually draw and shade in a group and duplicate them, changing their arrangement so no "repeating" patterns occur
One thing Photoshop lacks that I miss from when I used Paint Shop Pro is a thing called "Picture tubes" - it's like a custom brush that brushes out all your pre-drawn stuff in their true colours. I remember using it way back when I made this [link] those trees I drew in advance in full-colour and brushed them out and it automatically selected trees in random (since I did a few different ones for more variation) It was a real time saver brushing out an entire forest like that in minutes. Photoshop brushes of trees just wouldn't get the same effect

Interesting... I used to use your method for asteroids (all but the closest asteroid here: [link] ) but this helps me to lay down a nice thick layer of them for general compositional purposes before I have to think about details.

Excellent tutorial. Gonna try this out tonight. Trying to move away from my crappy noise generated starfields.

I have always wondered if spreading a brush preset will do a trick. Thank you for the share !

Well my personal preference is a hard round brush to paint in details but that isn't really what this tutorial is about
