Description My first tutorial, EVER.
And I'm so excited that it's done yet terrified because I surely made mistakes and typos and more mistakes

And note that english is not my native language so I can't express myself as fluently as I would in finnish.

Anyway~
This tutorial is about Paint Tool SAI basics that I could think of when I was constructing this. I most likely forgot to mention a million things~
Also this is kinda just tutorial practise; I will be making coloring and drawing tutorials later(And I really mean LATER) and they take so much more time and effort~

Still, hopefully this helps somebody~

"Where can I get this awesome program?"
This is the official site, I think: www.systemax.jp/en/sai/
You can download a 31 day trial version, but after that you'll have to buy it.
Piracy exist, but I don't know where.

tutorial, my oc SaiΒ©Me

I know that the easy pattern can be done by clipping group. I'm completely self-taught with both photoshop and SAI so I've just developed my own ways.

Yes, i mean. its only that the tools on my pain tool sai seem, to have different names. and i have multiple tool instead of one. instead of the tool you have i have the: lineart, colour and sketch

Hi and sorry for the late reply! v - v''
For lineart I use the pen tool on default setting but I reduce the opacity to 60-70% to give it a bit softer look.

Silly question, but did you use some form of tablet (like Wacom) to do this? If not, is paint tool SAI compatible with such devices. I'm going to buy one regardless for Christmas, but my software choice may have to change.

xXMaRTiaLaRCheRXx [2014-11-07 01:50:02 +0000 UTC]

Okay, so you layer the lineart? And would you suggest having the lineart be black or a much darker version of the color?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodlineV In reply to xXMaRTiaLaRCheRXx [2014-11-10 09:21:46 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I usually draw the lineart with black and recolor it afterwards if needed.

Recolor the lineart?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodlineV In reply to xXMaRTiaLaRCheRXx [2014-11-18 11:36:04 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you can color the lineart with a different color once you lock the layer's pixels with "opacity lock".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xXMaRTiaLaRCheRXx In reply to BloodlineV [2014-11-18 15:58:40 +0000 UTC]

huh. I'll try that. so you can just select it or something, and choose a color?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodlineV In reply to xXMaRTiaLaRCheRXx [2015-01-14 07:29:27 +0000 UTC]

You don't have to select anything: when you use opacity lock on a certain layer all the pixels on that layer will be locked and you can sort of paint over them.

How exactly did you change the color of the lineart in SAI? I'm trying to figure out how cause I saw that you went from red to black

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dim-Witch In reply to MegaAnimeFreak7 [2014-11-16 02:25:02 +0000 UTC]

On the lineart layer, click the "Preserve Opacity" button on top of the "layers" box. Once you've done that, just colour over the lines with the colour you want. c: Hope that made a bit of sense...

And I have a question... What did you use to do the outline? Did you do it on the lineart layer or by just using the pen tool?

Could you do a separate tutorial on the lineart and make it more in-depth? I looked up tutorials like this to learn more tips on lineart. All you truly did was show us a few pictures.
