Description I'm not sure if some parts aren't embarassing obvious. That's not a  complicated technique to colour fur so I wasn't sure what I should write.

Hope it will be helpful c:

Person who requested it wanted it to be about colouring "holes" in fur. I just realised I cannot do that. So for now you have this and I will be studying "holes" in fur to make for you a little third part.

PART 1 bluari.deviantart.com/art/colo…

Ah, and please give me links to work which you make with this tutorial^^ I'm curious about your improvement.

PREMIUM VERSION

The tutorial is amazing, and thank you very much for those cheering wordsIt really lifted my spirit

As for the pencils,I use Faber Castell too,but the only thing I managed to get was a pack of 24 colour pencils(only thing that I could find)Is this good for a start? And would it make any difference if you use black instead of a mechanical pencil?

You're welcome and thank you c: That was the exact purpose.

It's very good for a start. I suppose FC is a company with all products of decent quality, no matter cheap or more expensive, as long as it's FC.
I use black for very intensive shades(when pencil can't get any darker). It might work for regular shades too, you can always experiment. I would also advice mixing with darker shades(for example blue + darker blue + black)it will create wider range of the shade c:.
good luck

WOOOO this really cheers me up!!
I'm absolutely gonna start to use references again! I stopped that for some reason!

Ohhh i'm still waiting on my prismacolor pencils...
(OH and don't think i just bought them for the sake of nothing! i'm pretty good with pencils! i used Faber-Castell's 'classical' pencils before)

And i like the final result on your sparkle dog, there!
You took ONLY colours that i hate, but did something really neat out of it!

Thanks for the tutorial, it sure had a lot of tips!

(WAHAHAHA and about what you said, eh, drawing wolves from Balto! I did that too, and i got super-depressed because i couldn't!!) old memories! x'D

Yees, I also don't like these colours very much. That's why I took them, to not use them in more personal pieces ;3

Kioto-san [2012-08-08 01:37:51 +0000 UTC]

Quick question, how do you shade white fur? i tried gray by it seems a little bland.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bluari In reply to Kioto-san [2012-08-20 18:41:41 +0000 UTC]

okay. white is always more complicated. it dpends on what is comfortable for you, what effect you want to achieve and waht effect you like.

I usualy do a blend of hard pencil and any colour I like for the shade. this colour can fit with other colours of the character or the background.
[link] like here I took light blue and gray - pencil
[link] or here pink and grayish violet.

if you take one colour for shading it most probably will look flat anyway. several colours used gives depth.
it's all open for new experiments c:

^^ well now i know how to color better. but seems it takes a long time to color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bluari In reply to Keira-the-Wolf [2012-04-24 21:36:18 +0000 UTC]

that's great
yes that's true. but I think it's a matter of practice. I bet some artist who draw many pictures in very close style can do them in little time and almost not thinking, just doing them like a machine.
some techniques require more time, some - little, that's normal.

Keira-the-Wolf In reply to Bluari [2012-04-25 05:51:38 +0000 UTC]

Ah ok XD

Well.. im trying to get over a really really bad art block. I havent been able to work on art seriously (like i used to) in almost a year...=[

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bluari In reply to Keira-the-Wolf [2012-04-26 10:59:25 +0000 UTC]

awwww. I had such artblock once. it was terrible....
I think sometimes they just come and go. maybe you need to recall how it was to draw for yourself? without feeling any pressure?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Keira-the-Wolf In reply to Bluari [2012-04-26 11:03:08 +0000 UTC]

its weird..but.. i have no artistic pressure.. i think its other areas of my life that stress me. And now.. i pick up a pencil and look at the page and it just seems like a lot of work now to create something v_v

Maybe... ive got depression...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bluari In reply to Keira-the-Wolf [2012-05-05 18:34:19 +0000 UTC]

sorry, I had to leave for few days.

so you have to deal with other problems first :<. I have art block now too because for a month I'm constantly preparing for my final exams. it's the same as being a sportsmen and staying fit. if you stop excersising then you loose your abilities.
sometimes in life there are more important things than drawing xp

Keira-the-Wolf In reply to Bluari [2012-05-05 20:10:28 +0000 UTC]

Well welcome back XD

Yeah.. but i dont know what the problem is exactly. Lol..

I dont wanna lose my abilities D; I love drawing...

Bluari In reply to Keira-the-Wolf [2012-05-14 10:17:50 +0000 UTC]

ouu, well that's more tough than I thought.

So don't ever stop drawing ^^. If you love it then sooner or later the artblock should disapear.
