Description
Please check out my Tumblr Β and my Instagram !I'm pretty pleased with how this piece has finished up. Obviously there's not too much of a varied colour palette here, with the vast majority being darker tones, and variations of browns, greens and purple. I think this made for a stronger piece though, by unifying everything to create a coherent tone.
As for adding the colours, that was a lot of fun for this one. Obviously I referred back to a lot of screenshots and promotional images to try and find the right colours for the various different parts of the costume, and I think that I've been largely successful in recreating them. I went with some warm greys (which end up looking closer to a type of brown) for her headdress and cloak, though I also used the promarkers to add textural details to these aspects of her clothing, placing some details on the ribbon of her her headdress and the pattern detail on her cloak. The purple of her dress may have ended up being a bit too bright even with the layers of grey I added to it, but it makes things a bit clearer in terms of what parts of her costume are what, so it's not the worst issue I've ever had with adding colours. I wanted to be careful with her skin tones, as I felt it would have been easy to accidentally go too far and make it seem cartoony. I'm pretty pleased with what I've done though, and I think it seems believable, even though it's not realistic.Β
As I like to do with backgrounds for Star Wars pieces, I used a mix of bright colours overlaid with darker tones to create a spacey, star-filled area, and I've done much the same here, but I've used acrylic paints to do that this time. It was a fun departure from my usual process, and the different medium allowed me to mix up even more colours for a blend of lighter and darker greens, but unfortunately some of the subtleties got lost during the scanning process. I'm not too bothered by that for this piece, but I'm aware of it for the future now. But yeah, on the whole I'm happy with how this has turned out, and I'm gonna use what I learnt from this in future pieces.
