Gave my boy a new designnnnnn ;w; paired with some lazy lineart.

Originally he was named Shutterjack, but I wanted to mix up his name to better fit his profession as a librarian/cryptographer. Cipher Rune just kinda spoke to me, considering I love me my ciphers and runes are nordic which is where I live so HEY
His cutiemark was also heavily inspired by nordic runes, considering the symbol is Vegvísir, an icelandic symbol that's supposed to help guide you home through rough weather. We had an entire class about these types of magical staves and it really inspired me to give Cipher a new look. We even got to learn how to write in a cipher-like language!
Also changed up his color palette to a more teal colored blue, it's a nice contrast to his magic.
The new design promped a return of his neckerchief!!! Remember that thing??? In this assfest from 2015?? Because I do and I hate it. 2015 me was a weird little shit
Guess I should give a brief description of this guy while I'm still at it, this won't really be a proper reference sheet but I'll lay out the info I have on him anyway

Cipher works as a librarian in various libraries around Equestria, and travels between them every now and then to help with translations or other general work surrounding ancient languages. He lives in Foaledo (see my map for more info on that city) but it's not many ponies who really know that, considering how much time he spends in libraries.
Cipher is mute, which some suspect must've been the reason why he fits as a librarian since you have to be quiet while others are reading. No one is sure as to why he's mute however, wether it's something he chooses to be or if he was actually born that way. Or if he somehow lost his voice at some point.
He's a somewhat introverted and shy unicorn, but if approached with kindness he responds with kindness back. He doesn't have many close friends due to his lack of communication, but he doesn't mind it considering how he does prefer to work and be on his own.
If someone needs him he's happy to help. He likes being optimistic, and even if he's shy around strangers he gets really exited when he meets someone who shares his interests.

He didn't really come from anywhere particular. He just kind of showed up one day and began his work, informing people that he came from a place beyond Equestria and nothing else. People just kind of rolled with it, and if they tried to approach him and ask him where he came from he wouldn't give a straight answer. People were suspicious but they respected his privacy and decided to let him and his past be.

To this day he's still doing Equestria a huge favor with translating old forgotten languages and has helped with discovering historical scripts and locations all around the planet. He's even worked with Celestia and has helped her restore some of Starswirl the Bearded's oldest spells! He has contacts with princess Twilight who he shares his discoveries with, and she admires his dedication to history.
While not yet a royal Cryptographer, he does strive to become it one day to maybe become a teacher and help teach young fillies all about historical landmarks and languages that were once thought to be untranslatable.

That's really all I can share, there's a LOT more to this character but it's pretty spoiler-y for my comic. He will be a promiment character in the series, making his first appearance in chapter 1! As the series progresses his proper story will be told, so don't worry. You'll find out way more about him than this brief summary.
