Description This was one of those funny, creepy images that just popped into my brain out of nowhere. But as I sat there drawing it, I started to imagine a whole story to go along with it.

Basically, this cute girl scientist has ventured into a cave to study spiders. But what she doesn't realize, is that the cave is also filled with all the skeletons of people who have wandered in here over the past couple hundred years, and gotten killed by the spiders. Our girl is so totally engrossed in all the fascinating specimens she's found - that she never notices that the skeletons have woken up... and are now emerging through the cobwebs to get her...

Maybe someday, after I finish all my other, current art projects, I'll draw a whole comic book about "Cobweb Cave". That would be fun. ...Maybe someday.

Yeah - as much fun for me to draw as for you to read. Hopefully I can do it someday. Got lotsa other things to finish first.

Wonderful story accompanying the artwork. Definitely my kind of stuff. Foolish heroine!

I'm sure she's a sweet girl - but a little naive and certainly oblivious to all going on around her.

Wow, that girl's face looks like something I've never seen from you before, a whole new style. Slightly more cartoonish, eyes not even there, the hair stylized. Reminds me almost of some of those great Alex Raymond strips, like "Rip Kirby," but with a more "modern-retro" look. Maybe Darwyn Cooke? Anyway, I'm impressed, animation seems to have been good for you.

Thanks man! Well I honestly wasn't TRYING to do a new style - as usual, I was just drawing and it came out, however it came out. That said, the reason I've posted so few illustrations to Deviant Art over the past 2 years is because I have been so intensely busy working on "Transformers Prime" animated TV series. And yes, the rigorous schedule of nonstop drawing for animation, and the high standards of that show, has certainly pushed the limits of my skills and challenged the hell out of me. I DO feel like I've improved a lot as a result of that work. But it's not something I consciously think about very often unless somebody asks me about it directly (as you sorta just did).

I love Alex Raymond's work, I am a fan of his stuff, I've got all his books on my shelf... But I never took that much inspiration from him, I must admit. Much as I admire his art, he was never one of those artists I looked at and thought "I gotta learn to draw like that!" When it comes to those really old, old-school comic artists I am more of a Will Eisner guy than an Alex Raymond guy.

I did work for Darwyn once - and I am sure he would not even remember it. This was a long time ago, back in 1999. I was working my very first animation job, as a lowly, entry-level clean-up artist on "Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles" at Sony Animation, at the same time Darwyn was also at that studio. He was working as a director on a different show ("Men in Black" I think... but it's been a long time). There was one week when I had nothing to do on my show, so my boss sent me over to give a little extra help on the other show. And I ended up doing some extra clean-up work for Darwyn, for about 4 or 5 days. Then I was needed back on "Starship" and that was the end of my experience with Dawyn. But like I said, it was so brief, I am sure he would have no memory of it. From what I remember, he seemed really nice, and quiet, he could draw waaay better than me, and he smoked a lot of cigarettes. I think he left Sony and went to work for Warner Bros after that, and I ended up at Disney, so I never had a chance to work for him again.

You ever read "Outliers," that book by Malcolm Gladwell? The gist of it is what we've all known forever -- that practice makes you better. But he says you need a precise number of hours to be great, I forget, 10,000?

Anyway, slaving away at an animation job where you must have to drawn over and over all day long just *has* to be good for your development. And it shows.

Superb!!! It certainly ought to become a story...it would definitely work as part of an anthology comic in the classic EC tradition!!!
