Description
Here's another script belonging to the "Fractal Forms" script family. I've had it sitting around for awhile now... Anyways, it produces (if used correctly, which isn't all that hard to do) some nice smoothish-like fractals. I suggest using gradients that have a low colour variation to get the best results.Hint: Setting thickness to 0 can get you some cool results.
THIS SCRIPT REQUIRES THE 'EPISPIRAL' PLUGIN TO FUNCTION. [link]

I do not know why, but i really get the feeling that this particular script is not very 3d apo hack friendly. I struggled it for an hour or so, finally gave up, loaded up apophysis beta 2.0.7. and BAM! Worked instantly like a charm.

have you looked at my "Total Script Package"? It should have a version of this script that is compatible with the 3D Apo hack.

Make sure you have the appropriate plugins. After that, all I can really suggest without doing a full tutorial, is that you experiment with it.

HMMMMMM.
I don't see "Epispiral thickness" in the variables tab.
I'm running Apo 2.07.
Maybe I don't have it installed correctly.
I note in your "Plugin Install tutorial" that you show the Plugins in the dropdown menu in "Variations". I don't show Loonie etc
Maybe my plugins aren't working??
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

make sure that Apo 2.07 is a shortcut to the .exe that is located in your Apo program file.

I have placed both 2.06 & 2.07 into the Apo Program File Folder.
Shortcuts to the desktop.
I think the scripts run better. (3D scripts = 2.06 hack = Mindblowing) and just about everything else is running on 2.07. Scripts are much better in general.
Please clarify "Etched Forms" I get fuzzy poorly defined initial images. Is that correct? I keep hitting F9 and never seem to get a strong clearly defined image that many other scripts produce on the initial image.
Also, Major problem with the relocation of the 2 .exe to Apo Program Folder = I get "Access Violation" when trying to open the "Editor Window" Apophysis locks up and I have to "Ctrl, Alt, Del" to shut it down. Everything else seems to function well (gradients, mutation etc).
That was the problem that I originally encountered. Can't really run without the Editor. The error reads this way
" Access violation at address 004BFE86 in module "Apophysis 207beta.exe. Read of address 0000000D."
I'm running Apo on 2 machines and get the same thing on both. Seems odd that only the Editor wouldn't work
Ideas?

Currently there is a limit of something like 27-30 plugins in Apo. So if you are using more than that it may be why you're having the problem.
Etched forms shouldn't come out as a blur, but should have some detail to it.
Let me know if the # of plugins was the problem or not.

Hi CT,
I've just downloaded the Epispiral Plugin and dropped it into my Plugin Folder.
Then I dropped the Etched Forms script into the script folder.
When I open a flame and run the script I get to choose "clear" or not then a "sphere multiplier" and finally "thickness". Different each time.
I get a pretty blais image so I add a gradient. I zoom in & out to see the image change but there's very little definition to the image.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a tutorial to get me oriented to Etched Forms?

It sounds like Apo isn't recognizing the Epispiral plugin. Make sure you follow my "Plugging In Your plugins" tutorial, if that's all good, then make doubly sure your Apo 2.07 is a shortcut to the .exe located in the Apo programs folder.

I've got the EpisiralVariationPlugin.dll in the Plugins Folder.
I've got over 30 plugins in the folder which I see could be a "no-no" but am unsure which to delete. I had installed another pack of plugins that were required for "3D" scripts. Some of those work but generally are inconsistent in generating the initial image. I'm not sure what they should produce but a blank screen comes up often.
Installing APO 2.06 3D Hack & 2.07 Beta;
Maybe I've done this incorrectly. I initially had them running from my Desktop. I "cut" them from my desktop and dropped them into the Apo Folder in Program Files along with a bunch of other things (incl Script, Plugins Folders). I created shortcuts back to my Desktop but both gave operational problems so I've backed them out and they now sit back on my Desktop.
Not sure what I've done wrong on this point but should I have installed fresh versions of 2.06 & 2.07 all over again into the Apo 2.02 folder.
Some guidance on this procedure would help. It sounds like I've got something all wrong.
Thanks
Manas

It's probably the number of plugins you have. I ended up cutting out the ones that I wasn't using and/or the ones not required for scripts.
If you've installed the Apo programs in the same folder as the script, plugins, etc. folders, and then created a shortcut you should be fine.

Hi CT.
I can't remember if I sent a "thank you" or not.
I had a reply all typed out with my results and I don't think I sent it. I had an impulse to check something about 3D scripts & related plugins and I think I went searching without having sent it.
I was just going to say I was pretty sure it was an overloaded Plugins folder.
Thanks again.
Believe it or not, I think I've learned a lot today.
Now I just need to figure out how to make images.

CT,
Here's an idea on increasing your workload.
One of the things I really appreciated since I've been a member of DA is learning so much more about fractal generation. Apophysis is my favourite.
In part my learning curve has been assisted by much of what you've written & posted. A good example is the tutorial on getting "plugins" installed correctly. That helped get me off the ground.
A really big area that I've encountered as a "newbie" is the installation of Scripts. Each time I download a script and install it (some are zipped & some aren't) there might be a brief word on what to expect but what I've found when actually running the script can vary significantly.
Case in point; Etched Forms. It is significantly different from your "6 pack" that I previously mentioned. When I run it, I'm not sure that the initial image is what I should be seeing as it's so different from others (F9 over & over). If it's meant to be a starting point and the initial image presents a fuzzy screen with a small cental design, how do I proceed from there?
I'm probably asking that these points be clarified because I'm new to the script game and lack the basic understanding on how these features work. There's a variety of them and I'll get that sorted out in time. However, I doubt that I'm alone in my confusion as many others must be new to Apophysis and are stumbling through the same learning curve.
How about a brief "primer" on Script installation and the initial steps that a newbie should be prepared to make to uncover the art that lies behind the script's operation.
Yeah right.....like you need more work!!
Just an idea.
Thanks
Manas

Hmm... the problem is that it's just so different from script to script, so it would probably require a script b script description (loads and loads of work). Not a bad idea but I'm not sure that it is feasible.
Now, I just want to make sure that you do indeed specifically have the "epispiral" plugin. It doesn't come with the pack available at sourceforge, so you may not have it. The reason I'm thinking this is because the etched forms script should produce some definition and detail not just mainly fuzz.

My plugin is called " EpispiralVariationPluging.dll ".
I think I downloaded it from a site that required a code.
It's been awhile and my mind is feeble.

Thanks CT.
I seem to have recovered.
I reinstalled everything from scratch.
Still some 3D Scripts to add in but they require more plugins. Will wait to see if all remains OK and try them later.
Please clarify the Etched Forms initial page that loads after I run the script. It is not a well defined image and is generally pretty small.
Is it meant to be a starting point to expand on?

All of my scripts are meant to be starting points, some (like this one) are a bit trickier at the beginning than others. So just play around with different settings and after some experimentation you'll start getting the hang of it.

Will do.
I ran a 6 image "series" on the 6 pack of scripts you posted (Blade, Cell, Puzzle, Radial, Scallop & Spider)
They were easy to work with as they had an image come right up and manipulating those scripts were relatively easy compared to Etched. it looks like a toughy. I'll let you know.
I posted the series yesterday.
Thanks

"Epispiral thickness" is found under the variables tab, when you are in the transform editor screen. It is also the last of three options that appear when you run this script.
