The wooden textures really work well with the ambient lighting. Good work

i made the chopstick ones myself and the wood ones are just slightly modified versions of a couple on the dosch wood cd here [link]
dosch are really worth buyin from if youre looking for some textures because i havent seen higher quality anywhere. the bump maps that come with the wood cd are a bit weak but the wood itself is excellent, and all tileable.

I really like that
I played around with 3D last year.. Didn't get to try a program that could actually render *nice* things LOL

thanks
yea most of the apps out there leave a lot to be desired. its still very easy to make something nice look awful if you get the lighting wrong tho, in any app.

Almost wish I'd taken Computer Graphics 12...
Would have been interesting to actually use textures

dont worry, you probably wouldnt have learned anything. ive spent 6 years on computery/graphical courses and every single thing i know about 3d and about 98% of what i know about other apps and colour matching and that kinda thing is self taught. if you get your hands on an app like blender and just spend a few hours a week messing with it then im sure youd get into things and youd end up with a more personal work method which suits your style of thinking.

thanks. i wont release versions without text, im afraid. there are far too many people ripping off others art these days so its just asking for someone to call it their own.

Nice wood textures Maybe the table would look much better against the bowl if it was a much larger grain or even flat (not a cross-section, if you get what I mean).

ya, theyre from [link] they always do good stuff.
at first it had a larger grain but the bowl and the table then looked too similar, and i didnt want them to both look like they were made of the same wood. i also couldnt get the look right with a higher angle cos the shadowing absorbed the detail around the outside of the bowl. i did consider adding an oil burner next to the bowl too, but im saving that for another pic

Can't Cinema4D generate it's own decent wood material? In Maya one can rotate it around as a 3D texture so you can really control the direction of the grain etc.

yea c4d does come with a wood shader from the bhodinut smells like almonds set (which was integrated some versions ago), and it offers pretty good results once you know how to use it. procedurals is something which i havent really messed about with very much yet tho, so for now ill stick to layering textures to build my own shaders
