Description
The Hyypocrates-Class starship was devloped by Starfleet Medical in late 2293 as part of the humanitarian aid crisis of Kronos following the destruction of Praxsis and the signing of the Khitomar Accords. Over thirty vessels where constructed on a round-the-clock basis at the Copernicus Fleetyards, orbiting Luna by the Corps of Engineers. The Hyppocrates carried more advanced medical facilites then thouse standard on other Federation vessels and housed a team of over one-hundred medical staff. Even the shuttle piolets assigned to these class of ships where rained paramedics. In the event of a catastrophic medical emergacny on board, such as a viral contagion with one-hundread percent infection rate; the shevron modual would seperate and the secondary hull would be placed unter a strict quarintine.

In 2294, the Hyppocrates-Class Fleet was dispatched to the Klingon Homeworld with the U.S.S. Excelsior (NCC-2000) as the flagship, and the U.S.S. Hyppocrates (NCC-4870) was the class vessel's lead ship, under the command of Captain Helen Noel. During this year-long mission, Dr. Leonard H. McCoy was promoted to Captain and assigned as the fleet's Chief Medical Officer - cooridinating the efforts from the Excelsior. Dispite he received an invetation attend the launch of the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-B), Dr. McCoy regretably declined.
In 2295, the U.S.S. Hyppocrates was dispatached to the Oby System when a series of Plama Plauge brokeout. A team of Starfleet Doctors, headed by Dr. Susan Nuress was assigned to investigate the illness and discovered a cure later that same year.
