Description
The U.S.S. Explorer (NCC-1966-A) was launched in 2292 from Copernicus Fleetyards; Luna, a year after the Taubat/Metar crisis of 2291 in the Tabula Rasa sector. In 2297, Captain Gibson was promoted to Vice Admiral and headed Starfleet's Colinization Operations Division at Headquarters. Upon his recomendation, Pauvel Checkov was selected to succeed him as Captain, along with Commander Vincent DeSal as his Executive Officer.
By 2301, without any explination, Checkov was ordered to be put back to Earth's Spacedock; recalling the U.S.S. Explorer-A from it's five year exploritory mission in the Alpha Quadrent. Checkov was then notified by the Chief of Starfleet Operations, Admiral Una Chin-Riley, that the Explorer was to be givin a refit. Part of the upgrade was the inclusion of an aft torpedo launcher in the secondary hull, as well as seven advanced long range lateral sensor arrays (four on the saucer, three on the secondary hull). The warp nacelles where overhauled to be more streamlined for the warp field geometry and be more efficient with power distribution.

By 2367, The U.S.S. Agincourt, and the U.S.S. Explorer was alocated to Admiral J.P. Hanson's fleet for the Battle of Wolf 359, ans assighed to Attack Wing 12. When the order came through to withdraw and fall back from the U.S.S. Endeavor, the U.S.S. Agincourt was seized by the Borg's Tractor beam and seminingly destoried by it's plasma torpedos. Her wreakage was seen by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D as it flew thorugh the graveyard of ships on its way to Earth.

By 2399, the remaining Constitution II-Class vessles where decomissioned but parts of their hull where utilized in their replacment Constitution III-Class, and given new registry numbers.
