Description
The Shangri-La - Class was devloped and launched in the late 2280's from Copernicus Fleetyards orbiting Luna. The Shangri-La - Class was builted with generalized Starfleet architecture, with a saucer section, secondary hull and warp nacelles. It was primarily an scientific exploration vessel designed to cater to a close support envelope at impulse speeds, namely in and around densely populated solar systems witnessed by its overpowered impulse drive. This ship was also designed to be more maneuverable then the Romulan T'Liss-Class Birds of Brey or a Klingon K'Tinga-Class Battlecrusier.

In 2290, the U.S.S. Titan (NCC-1777) was launched under the command of Captain Saavik. Most of the Titan's Crew was recently graduated from Starfleet Academy, such as the Helm Officer, Lt. Commander David R. Forester. Untill the singing of the Khitomor Accords, the Titan was insertmenral in maintaining stability along the Klingon/Federation Neutral Zone. In mid 2293, with Saavick still in command; the Titan was to take part in "Operation Retrieve" in order to rescue Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy from Ru'a-Pente', but insted was diverted by Admiral Cartwright to Deep Space K-7.
