Description
Edit: Basically redid the entire animation, added two frames (so that's 12 frames now) and none of the previous frames was left untouched. Tried to smoothen the motion and make it a bit more deer-like, also made the neck more dynamic. Obviously the tail is still missing, but I've spent too much time on this already so I'm just leaving it out.The old version is here (for comparison): [link]

Animation assignment for school. Not much to say about this, I know it's not the best but ah well. I'm not feeling very well and I wanted this out of the way, critique won't be necessary as I know what's been done wrong (movement, lack of tail, edginess), but I'm not going to fix it at the moment.
It's still been good practise. There are 10 frames. Should've been 12, but I timed them wrong and couldn't manage to fit another one in. I might still do that later.

Look really smooth to be "just" 12 frames. Amazing!

Wonderful flow, very smooth! And you really captured the mannerisms of a deer. Love this!

I love love love the way it's body squishes. He's cross-firing, but other than that it's just amazing!

I'm not sure what cross-firing means, is it the front legs passing inbetween the hind legs? Because some deer do run that way.
Thank you .

It's actually not a problem since deer are actually supposed to cross-fire, as I found out. It's just unwanted in horses.
Basically the back lead and the front lead are different. When a horse gallops, the back and front leg on one side move forward more - that's the lead (say, if the front left and back left leg moves forward more, then the horse is on the left lead). When the front and back leg are different though, that's called crossfiring.
Here's a comparison:
[link] this one is on the right lead
[link] this one is cross-firing.
...but most light animals like deer and dogs usually do cross-fire, so you're right
Did you upload the fixed version of it by the way?

Yes, the better version is now up . I initially drew this animation while referencing a video of running deer, so I thought I might have referenced it wrong, but at least the term cross-firing is clear to me now
. Thanks for the refs, I'll make sure to pay attention to it in any future animation!

This is so cool >A> I love running animations. Have you thought of doing something like this for your original species? I adore seeing those come to life.
And curious, how long does something like this take you?

Thank you! And yes I have, I actually had a skeletal animation done for her but I seem to have misplaced it. If I can ever get around to it I'll do another .
I think this took me roughly 3,5 hours.

I was just looking for something like this, it's a great guide for leg movement. It looks great, really smooth motion for just 10 frames

I think it's great!
And even though you pointed out the obvious critiques, I must point out one: the shadow.
When the deer is in flight (when it's legs are stretched out), the shadow should be longer. If only for those few frames (I'm guessing about 3 or 4 frames of the 12), should the shadow extend. It'll make the finished product more believable.
Overall, this is amazing!
