Description
...::EDIT::...Larger and edited file on request.
Several people were complaining about the small font. Leaving critiques and comments are more than welcome, but I just don't like it when people use my tutorials and at the same time nitpick about the smallest things and don't even leave a "thank you" note.
So for those who do appreciate the 30 hours I spent in writing and drawing this tutorial: I uploaded a larger file. You can click download for full size.
...Whoa...
This is a MASSIVE tutorial I did in only 2 freakin' days! LOL.
I said I would do a gift for you all because someone hit the 60.000 pageviews. Besides, I got over 1550 watchers and my drawings of Vincent and House got over 1000 favourites.
Ooohh look at the pretty colors. My previous tutorials look quite boring compared to this baby.
Ehm... what else to say...
Have fun!

Tortillions cannot be reused except for smudged areas.
However, blendingsticks can be used more often if you sharpen them with a pencil sharpener or sandpaper!!

I use stumps or tortillions, all the time, and usually the same one :3 it helps when theres some left over and you jsut want to blend lighlty, and when you use it on a freshly blended area, it helps too :3

AHHH thankyou! your tutorials are sooo helpful.
one thing about the tortillions though--I've found that pencil sharpeners tend to chew them up, and the paper begins to unroll very quickly. sandpaper works really well, though. in a lot of art stores, tortillions are sold with a small sandpaper pad. very useful.

question: i notice from your Tifa drawing that certains areas still retain pencil marks whilst blended. does that mean you only blend a little of each area, or that it didn't needed blending at all?

instead of tortillions which are soft, you could use blending stumps. they are double sided more durable can be sharpened with a sandblock. they are sold at any local art store

I love blending tortillions, but there's a teacher who said to use brushes instead because tortillions can destroy the paper texture and give you a "shiny" look, while brushes don't blend quite so easily, but can give better gradients, darker tones and don't kill the texture. Just thought I'd throw that out.

If you wrape a tissure around a pencil eraser you can blend tiny details.

Thanks a lot for this tutorial. Helped me out in some places.
I only started drawing like...yesterday, but I'm finding it quite fun. Started a drawing yesterday which I'll probably finish later on today.
I got a tip from a friend about taking a q-tip and wrapping it in a paper towel, like you do with your finger, and it's also working fine and it's a nice method as well, I think.

You have opened my eyes! I always blend with my fingers and they get all smudgy.. Though I tried to blend with papertowels and tissues once. It wasn't for me. But that other thing might work ^^
Your tutorials are the best I've seen!

In chapter 2, you said that it is near impossible to erase a blended area with a kneaded eraser. I beg to differ. Just roll the eraser into a cylender and roll it over the heavily shaded area. It may bring up more than you wanted, but you can redo that.

About tortillons: You can resuse them many times, just put them in a pencil sharpener or use a sharp razor to cut off the dark parts. I'm not picky about detailed shading but I can see you are... So all you'd have to do is cut off any scraggly bits of paper left over from the sharpening.
