Description
...::EDIT::...Larger and edited file on request.
Several people were complaining about the small font. Leaving critiques and comments are more than welcome, but I just don't like it when people use my tutorials and at the same time nitpick about the smallest things and don't even leave a "thank you" note.
So for those who do appreciate the 30 hours I spent in writing and drawing this tutorial: I uploaded a larger file. You can click download for full size.
...Whoa...
This is a MASSIVE tutorial I did in only 2 freakin' days! LOL.
I said I would do a gift for you all because someone hit the 60.000 pageviews. Besides, I got over 1550 watchers and my drawings of Vincent and House got over 1000 favourites.
Ooohh look at the pretty colors. My previous tutorials look quite boring compared to this baby.
Ehm... what else to say...
Have fun!

Tortillions cannot be reused except for smudged areas.
However, blendingsticks can be used more often if you sharpen them with a pencil sharpener or sandpaper!!

This helped a lot! Thanks. (:
BTW, I think blending with fingers isn't as good and is only smudgey because of the oils from the skin... I mean, in a humid situation, that'd be horribe.
And you get the rest of the paper really dirty.

Requests are always welcome. However, since I'm working on a book about drawing, I rather save new tutorials for my book than publish them online

Sweet tutorials...very informative and I will certainly use the tissue paper technique . I usually use Tortillions, they are good but die very quick so this is something new I can use to save them for the smaller detailing.

god my eyes keep going all fuzzy. I used this to help with my folio, I have to do an A1 self portrait and I really didn't want it to come out blotchy. Tissues are a miracle, I couldn't believe how smooth my picture came out.
Thanks for the great tutorial, it was a life saver.

I love your work, I use a tortillion all the time; I sand off the tip with very fine grade sand paper to make it ready for another blend.

I do pencil portraits too (not as good as yours of course), I don't have tortillions. Instead, I use a cotton swab, i.e. the one for cleaning ears, for smaller areas.
I've also found that soft and smooth tissue works better than the lower quality stuff

Cataclysm-X In reply to Sachiko-chan [2009-06-13 16:52:19 +0000 UTC]
Q-tips you mean? They come in very handy too. The blend just as easy as tortillions, but don't have a sharp end so for very small details they aren't very useful.

alnastra In reply to Cataclysm-X [2009-08-01 11:29:56 +0000 UTC]
I found that you can still use tissues for the smaller stuff, you just hold it differently. If you fold it in to quarters (or any number of times), you can just hold it and use the corner of the tissue to blend. Works for me
Love your work btw, your tutorials are great!
