Description ...::EDIT::...
Larger and edited file on request.
Several people were complaining about the small font. Leaving critiques and comments are more than welcome, but I just don't like it when people use my tutorials and at the same time nitpick about the smallest things and don't even leave a "thank you" note.

So for those who do appreciate the 30 hours I spent in writing and drawing this tutorial: I uploaded a larger file. You can click download for full size.

...Whoa...

This is a MASSIVE tutorial I did in only 2 freakin' days! LOL.

I said I would do a gift for you all because someone hit the 60.000 pageviews. Besides, I got over 1550 watchers and my drawings of Vincent and House got over 1000 favourites.

Ooohh look at the pretty colors. My previous tutorials look quite boring compared to this baby.

Ehm... what else to say...
Have fun!

...EDIT...
Tortillions cannot be reused except for smudged areas.

However, blendingsticks can be used more often if you sharpen them with a pencil sharpener or sandpaper!!

This is great! I usually blend with my finger and it looks really ugly and dirty. But um. I lost my tortillon XD

Thanks for the tutorial!
What exactly is the difference between a tortillion and a blending stick when it comes to blend the pencil lines? Do they work the same or are there differences in the result?

Looks like a wonderful tutorial, but unfortunately it's a little too small to really be able to read the text. Could you perhaps please allow us to download the original full size?

Love your work!

The tortillions can be reused! When I bought mine, it came with the sandpaper stuff, (kinda like a nail file). You just rub the end on it, sanding the paper back into a clean point. >.<

Cataclysm-X In reply to Kentcharm [2010-08-23 07:36:59 +0000 UTC]

yup, wrote that in the description a long time ago but thanks for the tip anyway

on the other hand: tortillions aren't the ones which can be reused by rubbing the tip with sanding paper, but blending sticks! tortillions are rolled up pieces of paper which, if you damage the tips, fill fall apart.

blending sticks are made of... I don't know what it's called... pressed paper? Something like that. Anyway, those are the ones which can be used with sanding paper

pencil donΒ΄t smudge

everything should be done in pencil
not finger (tissue)

I always seem to get this shiny look to the darkest areas of my pictures for some reason I don't understand. Is that because I'm using a really dark pencil?

Also, the shading portion of this was extremely helpful. I always seem to scribble and never completely fill the area because I'm lazy, which would explain why my shading looks so messy.
Great tutorial It helped a lot!

yes it's really hard to read on this site, but you can also save the image and zoom in on it. that's what i did, and though the letters became a bit fuzzy, you can read it a lot better that way (= good luck!

May I give you an advice.? Check all your tutorials and enable the download buttons because they all got very small since they switched us to v7. Now it's almost impossible to really see anything because the picture is so small and I know it was a lot bigger before.

I find that wrapping a tissue around a dull pencil or a dead pen a useful substitute for tortillions.

WoW this tut is really all about it. You explain yourself so clearly even though you don't use your own language to write it all down.

My drawing development will be now divided as, before and after coming across your tutorials.
