Description Tutorial for painting a close-up of a Wolf (or any other furry creature).

WARNING: large file. It might take a while before the tutorial shows up on your screen, so please, be patient. I was too lazy to add a preloader...

Use the buttons at the top of the tutorial to navigate through the slides. I have no idea why the text has turned out jagged and hard to read, so I apologise if you have difficulties reading it.

ARTIST'S COMMENTS

Thank you ever so much for my second DD ~AnimalLover345 and ^shelldevil !

EDIT: Due to popular demand I re-named the tutorial more appropriately "How to Paint a Wolf".

EDIT 2: Fixed all known spelling mistakes.

A tutorial I pulled together of my last Wolf piece. I don't know if it will be of help or use to anyone, but there's no harm in making one anyway! Please bear in mind that this is the first time I've drawn something this furry this close up, so I'm sure there are other ways of doing this too.

If you have any problems with viewing the tutorial or any questions or problems in general, please let me know. I'll be happy to help as much as I can Other than that, hope you enjoy it and maybe even learn something from it!

NOTE: The tutorial explains functions and options available in Adobe Photoshop CS2. Any older or newer version of Photoshop should still work just as well. I have no experience in any other digital editing program (such as GIMP or Corel Painter) so I have no idea to what extent you can follow the tutorial there. If anything, it might just give you an idea of how to draw similarly, but you will have to find out on your own I'm afraid.

i don't understand the bit about blending colors with the eyedropper tool. especially if its on 100% oppacity...everyone states it so simply, and i feel so idiotic for not getting it

It's not possible to do if you're drawing with a mouse since you have to have a pressure sensitive enabled pen and tablet. That way, even if opacity is up at 100%, as long as the flow settings are ticked the pressure, and therefore opacity, of the stroke depends on how hard you push the pen against the tablet's surface. So if you draw very lightly, you get a nice blend of colours that look a lot more realistic than drawing without flow at 50% opacity.

thanks. I've gained a lot of experience with blending since this comment--I also got Paint tool Sai, which definitely helps. I think if I were to switch back to photoshop I could still blend correctly; I choose SAI for its lineart

That's good to hear I've noticed many people seem to use SAI for that exact reason so I'm glad it's worked out for you! And sorry again for the extremely late reply.

HolthinART In reply to ??? [2012-01-15 00:59:17 +0000 UTC]

I really love it I just have one problem that makes me unable to continue learning: Where can I find the Airbrush Brush? I have been looking, is there any download or a mysterious-but-yet-not-so-mysteriously-hidden-folder-that-is-easy-as-1-2-3-to-find-when-you-know-where-to-look folder?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

cerona In reply to HolthinART [2012-08-27 00:38:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'm glad you like it The airbrush is one of the default brushes that comes with Photoshop, at least the CS versions. Not sure about the others since I've never tried them. If it's not in the list, try using the "load brushes" option in the brush menu - they should be among the defaultiest of the default brushes Otherwise it's easy to make them yourself: Choose a hard round brush as base, tick airbrushing option and enable flow and opacity for pen pressure

this is very help but I am lost at the blending part do you smuge toll or just use regular brush?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

cerona In reply to Mizzleturtle22 [2012-08-27 15:17:01 +0000 UTC]

I don't generally use the smudge too much, so I blend using brushes and overlapping strokes.
