Description
I had a funny situation in the skirmish in which I did this. At some point in the middle of the game (it was a free-for-all with brutal AIs), I lost my Soviet Construction Yard to a Tanya that had been airlifted into my base (I don't really put up air defences unless someone will end up building Kirovs). almost as a bit of revenge, I took the offending player's MCV and built an allied addition to my base until I captured another Soviet MCV. I then did a What-the-Hell case of capturing the oil derricks in the center of the map (Bering Straits) and built a nice compact assembly of at least 10 war factories, 2 Grand Cannons, and countless SAM sites and pillboxes for added measure.I then took an hour ferrying apocalypse tanks from this outlet to the outer islands before launching the final assault. The entire skirmish took a little over three hours.

Nice. Although like 5 Airships could do the same.
Love the Command and Conquer games

Kirovs are rather useless to me - slow, relatively easy to shoot down from a safe distance, and dropping bombs is not always effective enough. I prefer heavy units that can move fast and hard once they get rolling.

Normally I would agree with you, however in my short internet multiplayer experience with Red Alert I found that almost no-one built any anti-air units so bombing them to death with a horde of Kirovs was something I got away with, allot.
Failing that a mass conscript charge (which I did rarely) or Rhinos backed with Apocalypses usually worked

True. I typically prefer playing against Brutal AIs, of which the soviet players will construct three Kirovs and send them in - ten anti-air emplacements (Patriot Missile, Flak Cannon, Gatling Cannon) do the trick very nicely.

Out of interest, do you use infantry at all?

Sometimes, depending on my mood that day. I have rushed Yuri Brutes by using the genetic mutator on my slaves (a tactic that is quite useful if you have a shortage and the slave miners are under attack).

I dont really play Yuri any more. And I can't because my Yuri's Revenge disk got corrupted
The first time I ever played Red Alert (on the PSone at a friend) I made a huge conscript rush that crashed the PlayStation.
Nothing looks as stupid as 1000+ conscripts charging a base. And most of them dieing before they got there

Hmm... My version of the game (PC) works when any game that's made by EA is thrown in the disc drive. Then again, the disc files are stored on my hard drive.

Yeah I have the PC version as well, but my stupid Anti-virus program stuffed up the main file by moving part of it to the virus-valt.

True. RA2 is by far the best RTS game in the Red Alert series, even without the expansion of Yuri's Revenge.

It's a bit (considerably) bigger than what I've used so far, but... less organized. I tend to spam infantry rather than tanks, due to this great feature/exploit involving a structure called the Cloning Vat. xD
Rushing endless waves of terrorists is scary.

I know what the cloning vats is. Unfortunately, YR has the Soviets with something called the Industrial Plant (25% off of all vehicles) - the Cloning Vats went with Yuri and his own faction.

Well if you read the description, the reason why most of the tanks are veteran or elite is because I had "procured" an allied MCV from another AI. Spies can do the trick very well, I do have to say.
Besides, all good things go out with a bang (Mythbusters style!)

khajiitmoonsugar In reply to ChapterAquila92 [2009-02-20 12:37:39 +0000 UTC]
Uuuuh well FYI I did read the description, I was just commenting that even a normal group of apocalypse tanks that size would cause pwnage, let alone a group of veterans/elites that do an insane amount of damage >_<
And xD In that case, you should try the same with demo trucks 8D

ChapterAquila92 In reply to khajiitmoonsugar [2009-02-20 23:20:56 +0000 UTC]
Sorry - someone's already done that on Youtube. A motivational of that would be difficult as hell since the prism tower could take out all of them without the intention of doing that, and I personally don't like the demo trucks to begin with because of how tempermental they are. I think I will settle with a massive rapid-deployment assault force from Nighthawk transports. That'll be a lot of fun.

Oooh I see, well yeah actually your explanation does make sense lol didn't even consider the prism tower doing that (must be why I am terrible at RTS's xD) Nighthawk raid shall be awesome! Kinda conjures thoughts of apocalypse now and ride of the valkyeries.

ChapterAquila92 In reply to khajiitmoonsugar [2009-02-23 23:10:13 +0000 UTC]
Tank bunkers and gatling cannons for Yuri, battle bunkers and tesla coils for the Soviets, and the Grand Cannon and prism towers for the Allies. On top of that, air defense chews up the Nighthawks in droves!
I wanted the appearance that it was literally like D-Day so the AI was on hard difficulty too.
