Description Sailor Moon is (c) Naoko Takeuchi / Toei.
"Up where we belong" is a song from the soundtrack of Paramount Pictures' "An Officer and a Gentleman".

Yes, why?
Nephrite presumes that the black crystal reacts on love, but why? Wasn't it summoned to find the silver crystal? And why does it only work "properly" after Beryl altered it ...somehow? And why hasn't she done that before? And w- okay, I know you can ask tons of questions like that about Sailor Moon, and the ultimate answer is always "because script says so". But still, harumph.

Perhaps it reacts on love because the silver crystal is also something based on love and joy and goodness ...? But then, anime-silver crystal is splitted in seven parts, every piece in the heart of a former demon. Where is the love-connection here? Gosh, I think I should just stop to speculate here. Perhaps the crystal was simply a romantic and wanted to play magic matchmaker with Nephrite and Naru.

Despite everything written above, since I watched season 1 of Sailor Moon for the first time around 1997 (GAAAH!), the four generals became one of my bullet proof weaknesses. None of the following SM villains could quite reach up to their charme for me.
Nephrite takes my first place amongst the four guys. And his relationship with Naru ... it's dysfunctional, silly, stupid, kinky, dangerous - but eventually very touching and endearing as well. What a mixture!

The fandom for the villains of the first season is imho not very big, despite Sailor Moon's huge popularity in general. I was surprised and delighted to see that a talented professional artist like Tata (slime, slime) has a big heart for the four boys and their queen and draws continually gorgeous fanart. This contest entry is a little tribute to the fan joy she gave me and others by showing her pictures here.

My theory is that the starsΒ  were aware of the fact that Nephrite was developing feelings for Naru (though he didn't care to admit it, nor did he understand them) and knew he had a good heart deep down, and were telling him Naru was his destiny, so to speak..all the inconsistencies in the characterization and poor judgments in episode 24 really pisses me off, it's like ughhh..always hearing about what is normal for villains in the world of entertainment, but I refuse to accept that..not when the Akayashi Sisters get to live after they were healed and didn't have to worry about Wiseman, Dimande, Saffir and Esmeraude hunting them down to kill them..but anyway..
the pic is so hilarious..especially when the kurozuishou started singing XD

Yeah, totally agreeing on that.

And there is also the revival of the Amazon Trio and the Amazoness Quartet surviving their redemption unscathed, so makes me wonder what is Nephrite? Chopped liver? And who cares what is normal anyway?

It is a very good question. Β Why did it react to her love? Β Maybe the stars were trying to tell him to quit the Dark kingdom, maybe it was trying to say the silver crystal is split and it will be too much effort to have it together so why not better get a chance with this girl, or the stars were messing with him saying you always take us for granted so weΒ΄re gonna screw you.

Now that I'm older I know this relationship can be quite toxic in reality but I still like this couple and wish they could have had a side story.

I love reading about your thoughts on the subject!
Though I can't help but presume the anime creators actually never completely decided why the black crystal acted the way it did - it mainly did so because we needed the plot point.

Maybe Naru in a sense was the crystal I mean wasn't the crystal formed when Usagi cried over the injured Mamoru?

Exactly heck the fact she could make that crystal react could be the reason fans want Naru to be Sailor Earth

Rebehm In reply to bonnybanshey [2012-07-09 04:52:12 +0000 UTC]

I think you've got a point. I've always wondered if Naru was a sailor senshi who never awakened. Since they've got special heart seeds and the Ginzuishou is Sailor Moon's sailor crystal, maybe Naru has one too and that was what the Black Crystal kept reacting to? Pure conjecture, I know, but possible given that she had once been intended to join the sailor senshis' ranks.

I enjoyed the Dub more than the actual Japanese do you wanna' know why? Because they were speaking in my language it's the main purpose of dubbing and that is to bring it to you in English and before you say something Sailor Moon in America was edited for children not teenagers.

Okay, I laughed. I must admit that the baddies in the first season of Sailor Moon were my favorites as well. The others, while definitely endearing and interesting, just weren't as good. The Generals were just so tragic! I totally cried when Nephrite died in Naru's arm, and again when Zoicite died in Kunzite's. ;___;
