Description full view, obviously
part one of my gimp tutorial IS *FINALLY* UPDATED : D
part two will be updated soon, look for it tonight or tomorrow~!

It's easier to understand now, as well as less text-wall-ish. Also, more visually appealing, YAY(the old image was, well... old...).
I've also added a different method of lineart, for you tablet users ;D

Personally, I used a bit of both methods to make those lines. Buuut anyway, hope you guys like the improvement. Let me know if you want a link to the old tutorial here, which is shorter but a little obscure, ha.

--------

Please, READ IT! I cannot stress how much I would've known sooner than now if I'd actually READ the tutorials rather than stared at the images briefly. My content isn't long, and it's pretty easy to understand, so please READ it. And I'm not saying this for my benefit, cause it doesn't affect me if you read it or not, but you'll learn quicker if you take 3 minutes of your time to actually read the content. Thanks.

PART 2 - COLORING/SHADING [link]

NEW
What To Do If You Accidentally Click Out of the Path Tool and Your Lines Disappear (Credit to ~Kay-Kayz . Thanks!)
" In the tab that is at the very bottom of your tool optoins menu, usually where tool status is, there should be a tiny little arrow in a box near the name of the tool you're working with.
click on the tiny arrow, and go down to the "add tab" option.
Once thats done, just click the "paths" option
And now, if you acidently click on something else while working with paths, just go to that tab, click on the eye thing(like the vision button for multiple layers)and it should show back up, as a highlighted kinda line. you can always just edit it if you messed uptoo! "

Woo thanks for the tutorial, I use GIMP cause I can't get Photoshop. Though I used to stroke the paths with the Paintbrush tool instead.

Oh and whenever I stroke paths and I get these purple specs around the anchors... Do you know what's wrong?

chex-mix In reply to spirit-of-earth [2007-12-27 00:35:05 +0000 UTC]

Thank youu :]
&& it's probvably because you're forgetting to drag in the point that you use to curve the line ... It's kind of hard to explain xD If you pull thye side things on the path, you have to make sure to drag the one you started with into the point you just made. You'll know which one it is because it doesn't do anything to your line, because the other one will move the line to make it curve different. You deserve a cookie if any of that made sense to you haha :] Sorry I'm probably not much help.
If it's not that i'm not really sure. :/

O.O

Okaaay...are you talking about those little square things that come out of the circles?? o.0

chex-mix In reply to spirit-of-earth [2007-12-28 01:36:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah, those. :]
If you don't drag them in, they make weird extra stroke in your line.

For some reason when ever I use the Stroke button nothing happens, do you know what I'm doing wrong, it worked before, and then it stopped.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chex-mix In reply to Dragonman62 [2007-11-12 00:21:54 +0000 UTC]

It could be several things .... check that the line tihickness is 2.0 or something, because you could just be stroking it, but the line would be too small to actually see. If that makes sense. Also make sure that the layer your stroking on is visible ...
If not, try re-installing it and restarting you computer. :/ Or if that doesn't even work then you can un-install gimp and then install it again :3

I'm on another computer right now, but when I get on my main computer I'll try that, I've been using 1.5 and then all of a sudden it just stopped.

If only I had a sketch to try this with. It seems nice though except for one spelling mistake where your talking about creating the layer to do the lineart on and you hit 's' instead of 'd'.

chex-mix In reply to Young-Jacob [2007-08-18 23:51:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I realized that D; too lazy to change it though. I did the actually tutorial on paint XD
