Description
LazystampislazyOTLI'm sure those of you who have dived into the muck of debate and flaming have seen it.
I'd love to add stamps in here as examples, but the anti-religion stamps far outweighed the anti-atheism stamps (from what I could find), and I gave up x'D
As a Christian myself (I'd like to think I'd be considered a "sane" one, lmao), I've been called a lot of nasty things and gotten more than my fair share of vulgar comments. But goodness, I've seen atheists (or anyone not entirely religious for that matter) get ripped apart just as bad, if not worse.
Recently, however, I've noticed that people are starting a ridiculous crying out that "[Athiests / Religious folk] are the haters!!", "There's only hate on the [Atheist / Religion] side!!", etc.
. . . wut?
tl;dr: There's hate on both sides, people. It's not just one side's fault.
Anyway, !DoItForTheLulz says it best in regards to the extremism on both sides.
I wish Christians would come up with a new nameSeriously, I wish you good Christians--the ones of value and true faith--would devise a way to call yourselves something different so that we can identify you from the morons. I mean, really. Most of you people are like anyone else, but you have morons who spout stupid shit that just makes your religion look like a brain washing factory of retardation.
I wish branding was still legal. Then we could just mark fucktards on the forehead with giant "F"s.
For "fucktard".
Edit: Now that I have your attention,
This applies to everyone. It just so happens that "Christian" is a really good topic word for people to look.
I aim this mostly at Chris
EDIT: I'd really appreciate it if people didn't attempt "turning" others away from their beliefs or lack thereof. Everyone has a right to believe in what they want - there's no need for you to start leeching onto people's comments and telling them they're messed up or wrong, etc, etc.
If I keep finding this going on, I'm going to disable comments.
Healthy conversation is encouraged, however
EDIT2: Need examples of what I'm talking about in this stamp? I suggest reading through the comments ;D *ahem*Page 6
EDIT3: Featured~!

Sorry, your reply just reminded me of the chain reply.
Also, to get back on the original topic. The media I was talking about is like commercial media who find it perfectly okay to sexualize kids and advocate violence against womyn. Fox is stupid when it comes to religion and is rather censored when it comes to reporting.

Hahaha, one of them broke
Sexualizing children in commercials is something I rarely see. I don't see a lot of violence against women either, but I do see a lot of sexism.

Commercials are rare in some areas I suppose, but T&T is a show completely based off of sexualizing little kids (and somehow their moms are perfectly fine with this). Sexism is by far the most commonly seen thing in the media by far (such as gender roles and physical expectations), but isn't gender roles seen commonly in the Christian Bible?

I've never seen AT&T commercials with sexualized kids, and if I have, I guess I haven't recognized them.
They're in every culture on the planet. Notice how every cleaning commercial involves women unless it also involves cars? Oh, and this one Diet Dr. Pepper commercial is just disgustingly sexist.

Then what specifically do you wish to focus on in the media? Sexualization of womyn, children, stereotyping what is "normal"/expected of what a womyn should look like, commercials or shows?

RS-Kyra In reply to DragonFang01 [2012-03-05 05:06:53 +0000 UTC]
It's better to go one at a time. The media tends to influence those who are weak of mind. Eventually, we become smart enough to know nobody actually looks like those girls. That's why shows like What Not to Wear are really beneficial; they focus on woman of all body types.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DragonFang01 In reply to RS-Kyra [2012-03-05 05:23:04 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately, very young girls don't have a strong structure, and surrounded by people strangled by those societal pressures, will try to 'blend in' or go with the crowd. A domino affect really. It's a similar reason to why your more likely to die in a large crowd when your hurt than if you're in a small crowd. I honestly don't want to do what other people expect of me physically, because it's my body and I'm fine with how I am, but I suppose that's only because I had such a bad experience with people my first few years I can remember.

RS-Kyra In reply to DragonFang01 [2012-03-05 05:34:09 +0000 UTC]
I know that, I didn't either. You have to grow out of it. There have always been stigmas that woman have been forced to cooperate and deal with, since recorded history began, and it's really only recently we've been able to fight them.
As far as body image goes, the only things you need to care about are [A] whether or not you're in healthy shape and [B] what you think of yourself.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DragonFang01 In reply to RS-Kyra [2012-03-05 15:32:58 +0000 UTC]
Unfortionately the media doesn't agree. Also, recorded history only goes back on how far you want to look back. Fossils are technically recoded history of the past, though not in physical words can still be read. Statues created because of religious influence that show womyn as gods were in societies that respected them. Super sexist religions came along and changed the game by "join us or die"

I'm not the only human being on the planet that sees production of the media. Virtually every movie goer, gamer, reporter, watcher of television, ect... are surrounded by media and media influences. Just because I don't want to be dragged along doesn't mean the whole world will walk with me on it.

I don't think you understand what I'm telling you. You can choose to rise above the media's influence or you can choose to let it pull you along. I'm not attacking you at all, but I do think you're overdemonizing the media. It isn't the root of all evil, just a lot of problems.

I'm not trying to act like I'm retaliating, I know your not trying to attack me, and I know the media isn't the root of all evil. But I still find it cruel to make a child believe such lies and give such unrealistic expectations and beliefs. However, Christianity is extremely common when looking into media priorities and standards as well as influences.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DragonFang01 In reply to RS-Kyra [2012-03-07 01:15:50 +0000 UTC]
Men and womyn are not treated as equals. Media very very rarely ever shows anything relating men and womyn being seen as equals. Christianity also very rarely has any message of womyn and men being seen as equals, if anything, womyn being seen as property at best. They SHOULD be equals, but from what influence outside pushes it on a large scale?
Besides, judgment based on race and sex does still exist. Nazis, KKK, stereotypes of men, womyn, asians, blacks, ect all are still fluent.

RS-Kyra In reply to DragonFang01 [2012-03-07 03:52:42 +0000 UTC]
I'm saying they ARE, not that they're treated like it. In every way imaginable, a woman is equal to a man.
I'd have to be stupid not to know that, and I'd rather not be treated that way.

DragonFang01 In reply to RS-Kyra [2012-03-07 04:04:35 +0000 UTC]
I know you meant that they are equals, but I was talking about how they're treated in society and how society views them using religion to justify it. Heck, it could very likely be the choke chain filter on the media. I wasn't saying you're stupid or aren't aware of the problem, I was further divulging into it.

RS-Kyra In reply to DragonFang01 [2012-03-07 04:11:02 +0000 UTC]
Look, you can't change all of society by yourself, and repeating things we all know already won't get anything done. We should start smaller, work off of what's already been done.
Alright, just making sure.

As Abigail Adams had once said, do not follow a law that does not have your best interests in mind. The media doesn't alternate the law, but it still brings the point that "monkey see monkey do" influences do not have any of your best interests in mind. This also includes religious influences

In a little over half the country. Bible belt and religious controlled areas says no to it. So much so that it's illegal to have a miscarriage in Utah (the reason why it was created was because a womyn paid a man to kick her in the stomach to abort the child [she was pregnant] because abortion wasn't an option for her).
