I mean, honestly.
Do you know how much work it must take to keep this site in relative order?
I know I may not necessarily know what exactly our staff do as I’m just your classic deviant trying to enjoy the site, but just looking around me, I can easily tell it takes one helluva job.
Why must people bash the staff then? Calling them all kinds of nasty names and such?
There’s a difference between disliking the way things are run and hating the staff blindly. I mean, do you know them? Honestly know them? Do you know what goes on in their lives? How do you know how much hard work and sweat they put into this site?
I’ve run a site before. It’s not easy. And I was running a tiny 100 member fansite. Look at dA compared to that
And if you hate dA so much… why don’t you just leave? Why waste your time complaining and –excuse the language-- bitching about it all the time? Just save your breath (or your fingers) and leave the site. It really isn’t that hard.
I just don’t understand why people have to bash the staff so harshly :/
I really couldn’t believe some of the stuff they were saying in the devMeet chat earlier today…
Can’t we all just show a little more respect towards those who have kept this site running for us?

i know this is old, but i cant agree with this more, so far ive seen so many people complaining that "the staff doesnt do anything" because the site doesnt have everything they want in it. Instead of suggesting updates to help the poor staff, they just whine

honestly, i can't respect the staff when they're barely competent at keeping the website running, let alone within their own terms of service.
i had original artwork that i spent over 2 hours on taken down in 2013 (another account) due to me "stealing it" when i know for a fact that wasn't the case. the people who had taken it were older than me at the time (probably 17-19 while i was 13-14) and were angry because i was defending a friend (he was being incredibly homophobic in retrospect, but you can't change the past). i went to them to have the issue solved and they got incredibly legal on my ass - and since I was (and still am) a minor at the time, i have no hope of actually getting that issue resolved.
It can take up to 3 months for harassment issues to get solved - and often, the staff don't do anything about the harasser. they just tell you to block them. meanwhile, COPPA reports can get solved within 2-3 days.
The staff said they'll ban block-evaders, but i've been on both sides of that issue. I've been reported, and I've reported others, but the staff very quickly backtracked in both situations and nobody's been punished for it.
They've done nothing about the bots spamming about CORE membership almost daily now, aside from ban them after they've been running amuck for 2-3 days.
I only use this website because it's the most popular art website there is - if i went to, say, dragoart or something, the userbase might be better behaved, but it'd be cut by tenfold.
The staff don't respect their own website - it's the same deal with tumblr. I use both because Instagram is fucking impossible, and these two are my other two best chances at getting my art noticed.

You all have probably heard the story of how the Deviantart staff took months to get rid of a vocal, dangerous pedophile, right? How many of you have reported death threats and the staff ignored you? How many of you have reported such issues, and the staff ignored you and/or brushed you off, perhaps even pinning the blame on you? Have you ever reported a block evasion and been told that you "provoked" the offender? Has someone ever written libel about you, named you by name, p

I agree actually with both sides and that journal. I understand the struggle on running sites and I know the staffs to have lives. However, regardless, they need to run this place better and take deviants seriously. Come to think of it, ever since this was brought more to my attention, I've been being further annoyed by the neglect. Especially lately...
I've witnessed a girl, let's call her Ley, harassing (The girl was so vile; she freaking recolored the victim's artwork as a gift for their birthday; saying ''happy birthday (vulgar insult.)''), recoloring (many times!), and stalking (going through her other accounts and images on other irrelevant sites to post it on here without credit, for poorly accusations.) from a artist currently. Nothing was done and it doesn't look like anything will be done given how long this has been going on. Despite her violating rules and privacy.
To complicate and worsen it even further is the fact that I too have experienced the same. I had quite my share of questionable events I find passable such as a sock puppet account commenting and bailing(deactivated before I can say a thing.) or a rude deviant who bawwlocked me and others for having opposite opinions or for being 'x' (he says he's a god too and before blocking he usually accuses others for things like being sexist, a-holes, psychopaths, ect. Some might be aware who I am speaking about seeing how specific I am labeling their actions, but still I want to keep them anonymous.); but one of my most infamous problems definitely wasn't. It was with this deviant who we will call D. D harassed me, a friend, and another. How does and did he do this? By saying he'd sick a dog on my friend, continuously creating hate art of another deviant, condoning and spamming someone's profile, linking my name in derogatory fashions, ect. I was called fat little b, a***almonds, told to f myself, and many more names. I was linked and mentioned I don't know how many times. It troubled and annoyed me greatly. Doesn't help that D also contributed and had plausibly no problems with Ley (unsure but it seems like it! He added and favorited some of her artworks. Some being ones who told me and the one Ley was harassing to change pairing picks.).
Others faced worse from the same deviant on top of that. The same person he told he would sick a dog on, he also said "thats me killing'' (insert her name) in a comment. Nothing was done yet and my ticket is still up. STILL UP and unanswered.

I completely understand that the staff have lives outside of running the site, but if they can't keep up, then they need to hire more staff members.
Well yes, that's exactly the kind of thing we're frustrated with. They've just been letting people hurt other people without doing anything about it. If they can't keep up, they need to hire more people. I mean, if I were doing my job that poorly, I'd get fired.

It seems like a recurring thing everywhere. The real world, minecraft, SWTOR, WOW, DA, I'm sure it's on FA, pretty much anywhere you go there'll always be people who hate the authoritative figures just because they don't cater to their every whim. It's quite upsetting, really. I've never understood why people don't like those in authoritative positions; They'll help you if you need help, they take the time out of THEIR DAY to help you, they take all the bullcrap and insults given to them. They hold the power, and hold it well. My only idea as to why people like disrespecting authority figures is; They want to feel superior to someone with more power. Often times; It doesn't work out and the person is humbled. And yet, they don't learn their lesson and come back for more. And more. And more. Anyone else have an idea as to why people disrespect those with power over them?

it's hard to keep up with everything!
and thus, people get frustrated when stolen work or porn isn't taken off ( or when they don't take out the stupid hash tag system....I don't get what they were trying to accomplish with that. I've had to retype something several times before I noticed a box showing up in the lower part of the screen. I kept getting the word "frozen" and had no clue what was going on XD).
but then the admins have to deal with trolls which could throw a real monkey wrench into keeping up with the site which sucks ass for them. I don't think I could handle being an admin for a site of this scale.

Actually deviantart has some of the best administers yet. They never seized to give me a fair reply when i reported somebody for a legit reason. On top of that this is one of the few sites that actually goes to the trouble of monitoring their ads. I remember there was a time on deviantart where somebody was sending links to viruses and EVEN a webpage that was meant to steal your identity. (basically a fake da webpage). The admit sent out notices of this and warnings to all the deviants via e-mail. And instead of pointing the finger at deviants they flat out gave everybody clear instructions on what to do and how to tell the real deviantart from the fake. The admins actually are concerned for the safety of the deviants. HECK they went as far as to do everything they could to find the deviant responsible for all the hacked sites.
I've seen crappy ass administers. If you want bad admins go no further than neopets. They will warn you for doing crimes that don't even harm anybody. They sent a notice that my friend will get frozen if she ever used the phrase google again. Yup because Google is a bad word. Yet they ignore the trolls. On top of that they don't even care for a kid's safety. They basically allow for adds filled to the brim with viruses, and do nothing about the links that lead to viruses. I refuse to go to that site because I don't want my pc or laptop ruined by a virus.
They cannot monitor everything but they sure as hell do the best that they can.

I'll say, and I've seen plenty of bad admins. Just go to neopets you'll get a warning if you say the word "google." Not to mention they do nothing about the viruses going around neopets (especially those lurking in the ads), and kids under 13 roam this site. I can only imagine how many parents had to deal with viruses cause their kids clicked the wrong link.
I know that with da there was a hacker going around and they not only tracked the idiot but literally posted a journal telling everybody how to keep their da account safe.

I say da has the greatest admins in the world. I mean yah they will piss you off from time to time but they do take the time to do what they are paid for.
They will ban the trolls causing issues and kick people out for major offenses like harassing, making death threats, or infringing on other sane deviants rights to enjoy the site. They'll kick people for going around the block and continuing to harass somebody. Yet they are kind enough to ensure that they don't go too far. They do give warnings for first time offenders which actually is good, and even if you are banned they will hear you out and give second chances. And they are easy going enough to actually let minor offenses like being a butthead or being an idiot go. :3
