Are you sure it's 1/2 a centimeter I think that might be too thin, and I've never heard of people being able to buy wood being that thin...

this is like the holy grail of sword making. Nice work! I'm going to use these as references when I make one of my zanpakutos. (If I get the chance and have the time to.)

hi! IΒ΄m working in my sword bu I have a doubt about the curve of the katan awhat is the width of the curve? because I did it with the pvc tube and itΒ΄s starts in 3cm and end in 1.9cm. thanks a lot

Quick question! If you wanted to make a sword like Hakumen's from Blazblue, you would do a straight-edge Katana or a wedged-shaped blade that tapers down towards the hilt, right?

chioky In reply to Shrrgnien [2010-09-27 23:16:00 +0000 UTC]
Proberbly the latter option, if you make a straight edge katana you would have to constantly layer it up

did the thick of the plank wood is equal to the thick of mdf wood because 0.5cm is equal to 5mm?

I have another question for you, chioky. Have you found another method of creating the curve? I've made up my mind to make my own katana but I don't have any pvc to use for this. I already bought the board and other things, just trying to avoid spending more if possible. *me broke right now*

PVC is proberbly one of the cheapest tools to buy

I have a piece of pine wood that is 3/4ths of an inch thick. In your guide it says that it has to be .5 cm thick. Does it have to be .5 cm thick, or will it be okay the way it is?
π: 0 β©: 1
chioky In reply to Rodrigo1337 [2009-10-26 23:59:04 +0000 UTC]
the thinner the blade is the easier it is to work with, by all means make it thicker if you think you can handle it

Is there another wood that can possibly be substituted for this? The only thing I can find with that thickness or anything close to .5cm is plywood.

you are looking at wooden planks you need to look for
STRIP WOOD
the key word is strip wood, ask for that and find it
