Description The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 3 (Cutting out the Sword)

Have you ever asked yourself "How do I make a sword?"more pricesely a katana. Well If you have asked that question then I am here to help you answer that. This swordmaking Tutorial will cover everything you need to know about swordmaking. It has an attractive layout, easily readable discriptions, easier to understand discriptions and step by step pictures to know which process you are at. These swordmaking tutorials are aimed towards swordmakers and propmakers, however anybody is free to use them at their own leisure to try swordmaking.

Right in this part of the swordmaking tutorial this is the start of when you get your hands dirty. Now your actually going to be cutting out the tang and handles at this stage only. If you cut wrongly the parts of the katana out at this stage your katana is going to carry those mistakes all the way until its finished. Might I advise that you take care when using the coping and hack saw when cutting out the parts. You wont be able to cut off your fingers but you can seriously cut them. Remember to saw quickly but to cut out the lines slowly.

i dont know if you did this on purpose or not but your using the wrong saw to cut wood. the saw your using in the pic is used for cutting metal plastics and pipe.

i was cutting the tip of my sword, and a small crack appeared, about 1.5 inches long. i dont think it will be too much of a problem, but i figured i should see if i can fix it before something bad happens.

is there anything i can do to fix the crack?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

chioky In reply to God0den [2008-07-19 10:08:10 +0000 UTC]

hmm well could of been avoided by sawing real slowly lol

but all you can try and do is cover up the crack with woodfiller just brushed over the surface

Can't believe we sharpen the sword instead of cut. We have a nice sword alright, but it took us a lot of time as well >"< (where the heck is my saw when I need it???)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

chioky In reply to FoxKids1302 [2008-03-04 08:12:11 +0000 UTC]

sharpening the blade by hand is what your suppose to do after you cut it out of course XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FoxKids1302 In reply to chioky [2008-03-04 14:45:32 +0000 UTC]

The thing is, my saw is nowhere to be found and since we can find a replacement, we have to sharpen the sword out right from the start >"<
