Welcome Ladies and GentlemanNow when I was still making my Tuxedo Mask Cosplay from Sailormoon I was only days away from the convention and I still had not made my hat yet. My hat was of course a gentleman's top hat which is very long, we are talking Abraham Lincoln size. So I searched DA and all I could find were tutorials on how to make female Mini Top hats, and cardboard ones. I eventually worked out how to make a top hat and recorded the steps I was following. Thus I have created this tutorial for you today on how to create your very own Gentleman Top Hat.

I'mma use this to make the hat for my Masked Gentleman cosplay. The PL series sure likes its top hats.
I have a couple of questions though -- on the base fabric, do I sew just along the outer chalk like, or both the outer and inner ones? Also, are you supposed to cut holes for the card tabs to come through the fabric, or are you supposed to pin the fabric to the tabs and turn them up as-is?

step 16 has me confused, how would i fit the card stock into the fabric?

think of it like the rubber tire of a bicyle wheel when you change in. Only you have to cut the fabric in half to slip it around the card stock

so both sides aren't sewn together? lol that's what i was confused bout. cause i thought the inside and out were both sewn together.

finally! a tutorial on a top hat and not a mini one! my friend, her sisters and i are going to comic-con next year and they want me to go as the greed-ler. i tried looking up tutorials on top hat making on youtube but they were all mini's! thank you so much!

For my Reaver (Fable 3) cosplay, I need a freaking TALL hat, like, BIGGER than Abe's, which is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to find.
