Description It's been a long time since i have had the motivation to write up a proper tutorial rather than just stick the recipe in the description of my photos but this was the motivation i needed as the possibilities for the choice of fruits and how to serve it is brilliant all year round for snacks and desserts. Monday i made a banana version for a snack, today a peach version to be served warm with custard for a warming autumnal dessert.

There is one thing i forgot to add to the recipe, if making a gluten free version (which is what i always do) add a tsp of Xantham gum to the flour for better texture and moisture.

If you make it, I would love to see it so, here is another tutorial for basic food photography.

Oh Tarte Tatin? Or well.. kind of.
Interesting way to do it lol. Last time I made something like that (it's been a while lol) I didn't actually add a cake layer on it. I don't remember exactly what it was, but my version of this (the french version.. I'm not sure if that's what you're making) is really thin and looks glazed, like a layer of caramel was put on it (although you did put caramel on it...)

But cool anyway :3 It must taste good X3

claremanson In reply to Llunet1 [2012-09-13 05:05:57 +0000 UTC]

yes a tarte tatin is really thin because it's a pastry base not a cake and often has a glazed top so that's probably what you made. This is very much like that just a cake instead

just one question, step 1 and step 3 both say to use the butter. Do you split the amount you have in the ingredieants in half, or do you use the 3-5Tbs in each step, so you usr a total of 6-10Tbs? i so am going to make this, looks delish

Xanth? What? You will be epicly cool if you know what xanth is! Also, I had never even heard of any type of upside down cake besides pineapple before, I'm going to have to branch out with different fruit soon! Although a week ago I did buy pineapple with which to make upside down pineapple cupcakes. So I still need to use that up first

claremanson In reply to rainonatinroof [2012-09-12 18:09:54 +0000 UTC]

nope no idea what Xanth is I have always loved the idea of an upside down cake but never made one as me and the family do not liked cooked pineapple so thought i would give it a go with other fruits instead

oh well. It's from a series of oldish fantasy novels, like the 70s and 80s I think. Pretty funny books if you like fantasy and really silly humor (mainly puns). Xanth is the name of the country. Every time I read xanthan gum in ingredients on something it makes me laugh because it reminds me of the books, they were a favorite of mine in high school.

oh yes, just as quick if not quicker than a normal cake, after all you don;t have to wait for it to cool to decorate it

Vampyratekitty In reply to claremanson [2012-09-12 15:50:10 +0000 UTC]

not that I normally wait... the smell of a freshly baked cake... (druels)

I merely hold myself back from eating it right away when it's a special occasion-cake
