"Knight of the Sea" (or "First Son of the Sea" depending on the translation) Jinbe is a whale shark fishman who has pretty much done it all - he started out as a soldier for Ryugu Kingdom, became captain of the Sun Pirates after the death of Fisher Tiger, then became a Warlord of the Sea to facilitate relations between humans and fishmen, allied with Big Mom to provide Fishman Island with the protection of a Yonko, allied with Whitebeard during the War of the Best after befriending Ace in Impel Down, and is now an ally of Luffy and will possibly be the next to join Strawhat Pirates. His name comes from "jinbe-zame," the Japanese word for whale shark, which happens to get it's name from the clothing "jinbe," which is a kind of night or casual wear for summertime, because the marking on a whale shark resemble the patterns often seen on the clothing. He was first mentioned in chapter 69 in December 1998 and made his first actual appearance 458 chapters and nearly 11 years later in chapter 528 in January 2009, making him the record holder for longest time between first mention and formal introduction.
