Description
So i quit my job of 8+yrs and this is my first week off. holy cow am i excited. This is the first big piece I finished. I spent a few hours getting it all right - hanging the star-washers so they look like little gears. I'm so happy with it. As well, since i just can't find the time yet I had a friend touch up the photo and and my url. its a bit big but i'm so happy with the work she did for me.I thought it would be interesting to combine my love of the intricate steampunk jewelry with my geek-girl facination and love of technology. As well, I've always found the idea of angels intriguing, so here is my Angel of Technology!
The Body of this Angel is made from one of my favorite elements: a magnetic fuse which is made of glass. Inside you'll notice the electric components and if you held a magnet against one side the switch would move. Once the magnet is pulled away from the switch it will go back to its original position. The magnetic fuse is about 5cm (that's around 2 inches) long.
I've added some pretty blue-purple cut glass beads to the copper wire. The body is joined to the necklace with a series of star-shaped washers. I love these washers - here I've used a variety - one large bronze-tone, one steel coloured and one of the matte black star-washers. I love how these have teeth like gears.
These wings are absolutely fantastic. I've not really seen many of them being used by anyone else. They are quite heavy - and so very, very detailed. They are similar to the ones I've used in some of my winged keys but smaller. They are almost 4cm (1.5inches) long.
I chose a very interesting new chain for this piece. Its a simple link but the colour is lovely - a dark near red. It is nickel free and its called "antiqued copper".

Hi MeggyB... alas, it has already sold. I've got another one in the making - a bit different though. I also could do a custom piece if you are interested.

Really gorgeous piece - I love the wings.
Hooray for you! Wish I could do the same. My boss and I today were lamenting the fact that we are both artists who became bankers out of necessity. *sigh*

I love the combination of the wings and the little gear-washers- the idea of a technology angel is quite awesome!
You should totally start a steampunk cult.
Do you have trouble in an airport if you wear this sort of thing?

You could hail to more modernly relevent gods- the pantheons of the world sort of need an industrial revamp. You could also have technologically relevent angels (^^) and spirits.

this necklace is great! love the idea of an Angel of Technology. The gears and the glass tube really add to the wings and don't take away from it at all. Antiqued copper is so beautiful and fun to work with! well done!!!

Yes it is an interesting mix but it works well! can't wait to see what else you have come up with!
PS
I was thinking of creating my own shop on etsy over the summer and I was wondering what you have to say about the site.

its a bit brighter in the photo.. but yes! so deep, and near brown-red. i am in love with it! I suspect it is a new product from someone... since i'd not seen it before from my supplier.
