Words Below:
The double life for Harold began after his first day of high school. He and most of the other students spent the day introducing themselves. It was the usual adjustments one had to make when starting high school. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when he went to sleep either.
When he woke up the next morning, he discovered he was not Harold but Heather. She did not have time to figure out what had happened. She had to attend her first day of high school. Things went more or less the same as before except this time she was Heather.
She made a few minor mistakes the day before that she was able to correct. She made a few new mistakes but overall the day went better.
The next day, she was Harold again. He still did not understand why it happened or even what had happened, but once again he needed to go to school. It was the second day of school for the others but the third day for him. Once again everything was new.
As expected, the next day she was Heather and it was the second day of school. The lessons were easier to understand because she had already done them. This made her appear smart though not overwhelmingly smart as if she had previous experience with the subject which she did.
The pattern continued with Harold experiencing the day first and then Heather repeating the day with the only differences caused by Heather herself. It was good to be able to relive each day though it had the disadvantage of everything taking twice as long to happen.
When the weekend came, Heather decided to do something completely different than Harold did. She went out with some friends while Harold spent the day at home. There was no need to watch the same shows and if he ever missed anything, she would give him another chance.
With the extra time she had doing the homework she already did, she tried to find the cause of the bazaar situation. Any attempts to find out on her own proved useless. After repeating the day for about a month, Harold received a note. On the note was a question asking whether he preferred being Harold or Heather. He wrote down he preferred being Heather but it was not fair because Heather had the advantage of previous experience.
The next day, Heather received a note saying next time Heather would go first. When she woke up the next morning, she was still Heather. By this time she had some idea what was going on and guessed she would be Harold the following day. That was indeed what happened.
For the next month, each day was spent first as Harold and then as Heather. This time Harold had the advantage. As Heather, she liked the opportunity to experience everything for the first time. The advantage of repetition could no longer be used as an excuse. It was quite clear which life she preferred.
When that month was over, Heather was given a note asking once again if she preferred being Heather or Harold. She wrote down that she preferred being Heather without a doubt. The next day, she was still Heather and it was the next day for everyone else. Heather knew that the alternation was over and she would live each day once like everyone else. She knew she would live each day as Heather and only Heather and she was right.
