Darrell, a student at Magic Academy, was practicing transformation magic. It was the kind of magic that tended to cause problems. He wanted to know before it was actually taught so he could show off to the other students. Unfortunately, since he was doing magic unsupervised there was no one to help him out if he made a mistake.

Instead of simply changing gender, he changed his entire identity. He changed into Daphne who already had the full identity he provided for her. This new identity came at the cost of the old one. She should have started with a simpler spell but she was impatient and overconfident. It was a combination that led her into trouble.

When Daphne tried to change back, she found that she could not. This was because she had changed her entire identity so Daphne was the "back" she changed into. Not knowing this, Daphne just tried the same spell again and again. This only made her tired.

After resting for a few minutes, Daphne decided to see if she could change gender. She could but it did not look anything like Darrell. She was unable to maintain the spell for very long and changed back into Daphne after only a few minutes. With growing frustration, she realized she had somehow changed her base form and did not know what to do about it.

Daphne cast a spell to return things to normal. Instead of returning things to the old normal, the spell changed what normal was for her. With everything being normal, she was no longer interested in changing back. In her current state, she did not want to change gender again because that would not be normal.

Although Daphne had a new definition of normal, she continued to practice transformation magic unsupervised. This created more changes to her base form and more changes about what it meant for her to be normal. It would take a teacher to undo the magic she had done. Even then, would the teachers try to change her if she did not want to be changed?

Daphne was not thinking about how the teachers would debate what to do with her later on. She just wanted to continue experimenting with dangerous magic regardless of what anyone else thought. After all, it was normal for her.
