Desi was a student at Magic Academy. Recently his teacher had been talking about shapeshifters and the many advantages they had. Although Desi was not a natural born shapeshifter, he knew he could recreate their abilities through the use of magic. Such a spell could be found in the school library, so he went there and checked out the book he needed.

Most of the people who attempted such a spell were adults and most of them spent at least a few months studying and practicing the spell before attempting it on a human being, especially if they were casting it on themselves. Desi was not one to wait around. He wanted results right away. Because of his impatience, he would get them.

As soon as he cast the spell, he found himself looking like a girl with brown hair a year or two younger than he was. Desi recognized her as one of the girls from school. He did not know her very well but they had talked several times before. It was strange that he had taken on her appearance and stranger still that the transition was involuntary.

Desi did not let it worry him ... until he tried to change back. He found that he could not do it. With a sigh, he realized that he would have to get help. Before he could, however, he changed appearance again. This time he looked like a black girl about a year older than he was. Again it was a student he knew and again it was someone he did not know very well.

Getting help slipped his mind as Desi let his curiosity get the best of him. He wondered why such a change happened. Then he became a red headed boy about two years older than he was. At least he was male again, even if it was not his own appearance, the appearance he currently wanted.

Over the next few hours, Desi took the appearances of a young asain boy, an adult woman who taught the older students, and a blonde girl his own age who he knew better than the others but still not very well. During that time, he attempted to cause the change intentionally but could not manage even the slightest change of appearance. He had gained shapeshifting powers but the powers were unstable.

The next morning, Desi looked like the brown haired girl he had changed into the first time. It was a school day and he would have to face the inevitable. He just wondered how many times he would change before he actually got there.
