I use a Canon EOS T5i Rebel with a 75-300mm lens for birds, and to get a bit closer I use a popup camo tent by Ameristep. It looks very much like this one.

I just get the birds use to seeing it by the feeding area, then start moving it closer. After the acclimate to it, go sit inside and sit quietly!  If you watch Walmart at the end of hunting season, you can often get these tents for a lot less. Mine was $150.00 USD, and I got it for $49.00! Today was overcast and I was using natural light, it gave it just a bit of softness. I couldn't use any kind of lighting because the bird as so skittish.
