This is my first attempt at a tutorial, about how to make the cogwheel shapes seen in Anatomy of a Thought and Collective Consciousness . In this tutorial, I explain how the cogwheel shapes can be incorporated into a simple Spherical gasket, but there are lots of other things you could do with them as well.
I've skipped a few of the intermediate stages, such as how to create a blank flame or how to duplicate transforms and so on. As such, the tutorial relies on a familiarity with the transform editor.
Please let me know if there's anything that doesn't work/doesn't make sense, and if you make anything using this tutorial, I'd be really pleased to see it and include a link in the description here. Enjoy.

Had a go at the tut Chris. see [link] for an image straight from the tutorial. Will go away and play with the settings to see what I can come up with now.
I found I had to alter some settings to get images like yours through the steps, I don't know if this is because I used Apo 7X or not.
Comments I typed as I went along are:
At the end of step 3 the image did not look the same.
Step 3 does not say to remove Linear, I found it needed to go to zero on TX 2 and 3
Image still did not look the same but managed to get one close to Chris's when I altered weight of TX2 to 5 and TX3 to 10.
Also altered scale to 30
The tip in step 5 says about adjusting weight, I found needed to do this earlier with larger numbers.
Hope these are useful and thanks again for the Tutorial

Thank you very much for trying it out, and for your detailed feedback - I really appreciate it. Like I said, I've never tried writing a tutorial before, so any suggestions or corrections are always helpful. I completely forgot to write about setting Linear to 0, so I'll edit that in.
I had a go at following each step of the tutorial on Apophysis 7X, and it seemed to work okay, apart from the mistake with Linear. I wonder if you were using a dark gradient? That could have made the pattern harder to see. Here's my attempt with 7X: [link] .

Good point about the gradient, may of had an impact.
Thanks again for a great tutorial

Brilliant one Chris, I might even give Apo another go this weekend

Thanks Steve. Tomorrow, I'm going to write a similar tutorial on how to make flower-like shapes. The technique is pretty much the same, but involves some different stages and is slightly more complicated. I've never tried writing tutorials before, so hopefully it will make sense.
It would be great if you do have another go at Apophysis - I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
