I had watched a little TV - totally not waiting for Triz to come back from her wanderings - and was thinking about hitting the hay, when the alarm went off. Red lighting and ear-splitting klaxons - just like out of old school Star Trek!

And that wasn’t the only way it resembled something from the Shatner era; there was also a dramatic lurch and tilt as the entire ship pitched hard to a side (starboard or aft, don’t ask me). I don’t know how many of you have been on a rapidly sinking boat, but I don’t recommend it!

It was such a nauseating feeling, like suddenly waking up on a rollercoaster you never bought a ticket for, that, for a second, I panicked and forgot I was totally a superhero! But the reflexes kicked in and, in the blink of an eye, I flew free of the Suck It, Kurt Melnick as Djinni!

It looked even more frightening from above as I could see just how quickly the boat was going down, taking on water and sinking rear-first into the Pacific. I couldn’t see the damage from my perspective but I guessed it had to have been a massive impact or fissure to open the hull that wide. I don’t know what kind of emergency training Quinton Nash and his private crew had had, but I was watching as general panic had set in so quickly. Crew members and their boss were jumping over the railings into the water without sign of a life raft.

Saving their lives was my priority, but while I was trying to figure out the best way to use my command over the air to keep these scattered people afloat, my other, mostly subconscious power kicked in. And...

Well, where there was once a rapidly sinking, multi-million dollar piece of high-tech, luxury watercraft there was now a gigantic kid’s pool floatie. A really cute one that I can only imagine I might’ve coveted when I was little.
