Greetings, all you boos and ghouls and assorted creatures of the night! The official MonsterHigh group has issued another monthly challenge in the hopes of drawing attention back towards the group once more - one that I endeavor to continue long after it has ended! Though the monthly challenges do technically end, they are more than happy to continue to except entries long after they are over, something I hope to take advantage of!

For those that have followed the Monster High fandom (or, indeed, have gotten into it as a result of my work), you will be well aware of the dreaded reboot that ultimately led to the franchise's demise (and subsequently Ever After High, as well) - though the animation was admittedly more fluid, the poorly conceptualized designs and the flanderization of characters, not to mention the complete exclusion of some, such as Headmistress Bloodgood, were not well received among fans. Thus, this monthly art challenge has asked us to redesign the canon Monster High cast!

And here she is! My rebooted version of the ghoul who'll make you wanna howl at the moon, Clawdeen Wolf!

As some of you might remember, I put out a poll asking which character I should work on next. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Clawdeen won by a landslide (while Deuce received no votes at all. What've you all got against the snake dude, huh?) and honestly, I can see why. For some reason, she's liked by a lot of fans of the franchise, which is one of the reasons why I didn't change her design too much - if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? That being said, there were a few things that I did change. For starters and perhaps most notably, I gave her a tail, which is something I think she really should've had from the very beginning. I mean, Toralei's been shown with a tail on/off and ghouls like Jinafire and Lorna also have tails, even if they're more akin to dangling ropes than anything else. Considering how much real wolves actually communicate using their tails, it seemed like an obvious choice.

As I've established beforehand, I'm trying to avoid giving all of redesigns of the ghouls knee-high boots and pumps, skirts, huge heads of hair, and the same body type in order to better distinguish them from each other and represent as many different people as possible. When it comes to Clawdeen however, I think we can all agree that she's one of the ghouls where such a huge mane feels natural, if I did downsize it a little bit. In regards to her outfit, I honestly don't think the Gen 2 version of Clawdeen suffered too badly, even if it did take me a while to appreciate it - I think it was the solid gold boots that threw me off. With that said however, even the reboot based its design off of Clawdeen's original outfit and I honestly didn't think there was much reason to deviate away from that. What I did change however, was give her a scarf, a satchel for all of her sketchbooks and supplies, a headband to hold all of that hair out of her eyes, and a pair of glasses. To me, Clawdeen always felt like the most mature out of the Ghoul Squad, the one who always knew where she was going, what she wanted to do with her life, and how to get there. I wanted to reflect that in her redesign - plus, who says only smart people get to wear glasses? Some people actually need them to see, you know.

But enough of my rambling insights. Onto the facts!

Name: Clawdeen 'Evelyn' Wolf

Parents: The Wolf-Man (Clawrk 'Larry' Wolf) and his mate (Harriet 'Gwen' Wolf). After fleeing Europe during the second wave of the Fright Flight and laying low in the Boonited States for several years, her parents opened up and run a bed and breakfast. Considering how large their family is and how small their house is however, the business is located next door, where Clawrk serves as the kitchen's head chef and Harriet runs the front desk. In addition to employing their own children in the family business, they happily hire a number of Monster High's students, which has made them well acquainted and liked among the New Salem community.

Age: 16

Personality: Clawdeen is an energetic and a ghoul who is very confident in herself, a trait that makes her a role-model for a number of her younger peers, including her sister, Howleen Wolf. Coming from such a large family, where one would be lucky to have anything to themselves, she is also incredibly resourceful and runs a DIY blog. As a werewolf, Clawdeen is also very loyal and protective of those and what she considers to be her own, which can sometimes cause a rift between her and her friends when she tries keep something the same when they try to change it. Furthermore, she is also quick to anger when her loyalty is called into question or doubted, though it can be said her bite is significantly worse than her bark.

Friends: Due to her confident nature and loyal personality, Clawdeen has a lot of strong connections throughout the student body of Monster High. Her GFF is Draculaura, whom she has known as far back as Monster Middle School, and she has a somewhat estranged relationship with Cleo due to her prickly personality and habit of bossing other students around. While she is also close with the other members of the Ghoul Squad - Frankie Stein, Lagoona Blue, and Ghoulia Yelps - Clawdeen also likes to fang out with some of the members of the Fashion Club, such as Skelita Calaveras and Jinafire Long. She is also on good terms with the Boo Crew and is always looking out for her siblings, Clawd and Howleen Wolf, even if they have a habit of fighting.

Sexuality: Clawdeen is a lesbian and proud of it!

Romance: Clawdeen is a ghoul who is focused on future and is thus not really looking for a relationship with anyone. With that being said, she has taken notable interest is Isi Dawndancer, though whether this is because of her predatory nature or if she has genuine, romantic interest in her is up for debate. She has also taken interest in Tami Nuki . . . or at least, whoever Tami happens to be disguising herself as at the moment.

Pet: Ironically, Clawdeen owns a Yule cat kitten named Crescent, which she earned due to the crescent-shaped markings over her eyes. Unlike her owner, she is very lazy by nature and will spend the majority of her time napping anywhere - or on anyone. That being said, Crescent is fiercely protective of her title as the Alpha Pet of the Wolf household and won't let her owners or her fellow pets forget it, going so far as to wake them up in the middle of the night if her position is ever called into question.

Trivia: Clawdeen's middle name is taken from actor Evelyn Ankers, who played the Wolf-Man's love interest, Gwen Conliffe in theoriginal, 1941 The Wolf Man film. Her mother, Harriet's, middle name is also named after this character, while her father, Clawrk's, middle name is a nod to the titular Wolf-Man's true identity, Larry Talbot.

As a werewolf, Clawdeen has a massive family stretching across multiple generations and at least three continents, having relatives in several European countries, Russia, China, India, the Boonited States, and Canada. Her closest relatives consist of her parents, Howleen, Clawd, and Clawdia Wolf, and several younger siblings of various ages. Out of all of them, Clawdeen is the third oldest, after Clawdia and Clawd and before Howleen.

Clawdeen's favorite food is just about kind of meat, but she loves steak most of all. Her least favorite food however, is chocolate, as she got horribly sick the last time she had it and ruined her favorite pair of shoes in the process. She also likes boo-ba tea.

Clawdeen's favorite subjects are Freakynomics and Art. When she graduates, Clawdeen wants to one day have her own fashion empire and thus, wants to know as much about the business and process as possible. Her least favorite class however, is Physical Deaducation. Even though, as a werewolf, she's very athletic, she finds most ball-related games (especially dodgeskull) to be very distracting.

Though she won't ever openly admit it, Clawdeen keeps a squeaky toy in her purse to chew on when she gets nervous.

Clawdeen herself looks up to and admires her older sister, Clawdia Wolf, a werewolf who has not only graduated from Monster High and Monster University, but has a promising career as a script writer for a number of block-screaming movies. As such, she in turns strives to try and be someone her younger siblings can also look up to one day, even if she regularly gets into arguments with Howleen about borrowing her belongings without asking.
