Greetings, all you boos and ghouls and assorted creatures of the night! The official MonsterHigh group has issued another monthly challenge (this time one I can actually participate in!) in the hopes of drawing attention back towards the group once more - a noble and worthwhile effort, if I do say so myself!

For those that have followed the Monster High fandom (or, indeed, have gotten into it as a result of my work), you will be well aware of the dreaded reboot that ultimately led to the franchise's demise (and subsequently Ever After High, as well) - though the animation was admittedly more fluid, the poorly conceptualized designs and the flanderization of characters, not to mention the complete exclusion of some, such as Headmistress Bloodgood, were not well received among fans. Thus, this monthly art challenge has asked us to redesign the canon Monster High cast and I'm more than happy to help get the ball rolling!

Here we have my rebooted version of none other than the main ghoul herself, Frankie Stein!

For her design concept, I wanted to steer away from the many dresses, skirts, and knee-high boots or leggings that plagued the Gen 1 cast, mostly because I have a feeling as I continue this project, those design choices will fit other ghouls better. Instead, I opted to try for a pair of skinny jeans and dark blue T-shirt under a light jacket. This is because, being the daughter of Frankenstein's Monster and thus only being a couple weeks old at most when the series first starts, I figured Frankie wouldn't have much of a sense of fashion - she may have the body of a model, but she probably wouldn't have the eye of one. That being said, she's not completely helpless and does have some taste, such as tying it all together with her family's signature lightning theme and sewing her jeans with some of her trademark stitches.

Being Frankenstein's Monster's daughter, I wanted to allude more to her heritage than through just her physical appearance. If you look closely, I incorporated the bandages that her mother - the Bride of Frankenstein's Monster - wears on her arms in the classic movie, as well as the big boots that her father is typically shown wearing. In regards to her hair, I was primarily inspired when I took my younger cousin to my town's local Children's Museum last year. There was this girl with huge hair playing with one of those plasma globes that, when she touched it, made it look like her hair just exploded. What better hairstyle for someone who can kiss a wall socket and walk away?

But enough of my rambling. Onto the facts!

Name: Frankie 'Shelley' Stein

Parents: Frankenstein's Monster (Victor Stein) and his Bride (Viveka Stein). Her mother works as a college professor in Engineering while her father is a stay-at-home inventor who works from his basement, forging uncharted paths into the depths of Mad Science and occasionally causing a city-wide blackout in the process. Both are well educated and are highly respected within the monster community and even human society, to some degree.

Age: Mentally, she is 15 years old. Physically however, she is less than a year old, though the age of her individual parts varies.

Personality: Being only a couple months old at best, Frankie is incredibly curious and optimistic about the world around her. While this can lead some to believe that she is terribly naive, she still has a good head on her shoulders (her parents made sure of that) and is able to look at the situations she and her ghoul friends commonly get into with a logical and rational mind. Despite this, Frankie is still woefully unprepared for the unlife of a monster teenager and all the complications that it brings, which often leads to her believing things that aren't necessarily true or helpful. Nevertheless, Frankie has a strong sense of loyalty and always has her ghoul friend's backs!

Friends: Honestly, you would have an easier time listing people that Frankie considers enemies, as she's on pretty good terms with everyone. Her closest friends however, are the Ghoul Squad - Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, Cleo de Nile, Lagoona Blue, and Ghoulia Yelps. She is also close friends with some of the Boo Crew, primarily Clawd Wolf, Deuce Gorgon, Jackson Jekyll, Holt Hyde, and Gil Webber.

Sexuality: Straight . . . she thinks. At the moment, she's still figuring that out.

Romance: Being less than a year old and only just starting to grasp the very complicated concept of dating, Frankie hasn't quite figured out who or what she's into. Though she's open to experimentation, she's recently set her eyes on Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde . . . or at least, whichever one happens to be in control at the time.

Pet: Shortly after her 'birth', Frankie's parents helped her construct an animal companion to help her get through her first few weeks of life, whom she affectionately named Watzit. Frankie's not quite entirely sure what he's all made out of, considering his pet license is easily ten pages long, but he primarily looks and acts like a dog - just don't call him that. Whatever's he made of, it hates to be called that and it can breath fire (her mother found that out the hard way).

Trivia: Frankie's middle name is an obvious nod to Mary Shelley, the author of the Frankenstein novel.

Frankie doesn't have a favorite food, but has a fondness for well-done pizza with all the toppings. On the other hand, she can't stand brussel sprouts and would sooner kiss a piranha than eat them.

Frankie's father, Victor Stein, has a habit of exclaiming "It's alive!" whenever Frankie comes upstairs for breakfast in the morning, much to her annoyance.

Whenever Frankie shows high levels of emotions, her neck bolts often spark, which can sometimes lead to her accidentally electrocuting both her friends and passerby.

Frankie's favorite subjects are Mad Science, Biteology, and Chemistry. Her least favorite subject is Physical Deaducation, as her limbs have an unfortunate habit of falling off and sometimes running away if they get hit too hard. In truth though, Frankie enjoys most of the classes that Monster High has to offer.

Despite technically being the youngest of the Ghoul Squad, Frankie is the tallest of them all, which also makes her the leader of the group to some degree, despite no-one actually being in charge.

In addition to have a number of spare parts on the off chance she should lose something, Frankie's parents have a wide collection of other body parts at her disposal, which she is allowed to use or try on any time she wants. This is because they strongly believe that Frankie should feel comfortable and happy as possible, and thus they want to let her to explore herself until she's satisfied with who she is.

Welp, I've been rambling long enough! With any luck, I'll be able to work on the other main ghouls before the challenge is over and if not . . . well, I might just turn this into a series.
