Description
Hey, everybody! I'm back! What has it been, a coupe months since I've submitted anything (of course, if you look through the comments, I've been here recently)? Ah, anyway, I suppose this was inevitable, and not just because OV Shock Rock is by far my most popular piece (which I still don't understand). Someone was probably bound to request/commission it at some point, so I might as well get it out of the way now, right?Like Shock Rock, I have mixed feelings about Slapback. For a while, I didn't like him, and not because he was part of the Reboot. In my mind, an alien/hero/whatever should only have duplication powers if creating clones offers them a better chance of survival (herding behavior) or if creating clones allows them to use their combined strength and numbers to overcome obstacles - my mine problem was with the added effect that Slapback gets stronger and heavier the more he duplicates himself. You could basically send a single clone to, say, stop a runaway train, rather than having to rely on a large number of them. In my mind, that kind of defeats the purpose of duplication powers, but in the end I just stopped caring.
Ah, well. Onto the facts!
Name: Slapback
Species: Ekoplektoid
Home World: Ekoplekton
Powers/abilities: Slapback is capable of duplicating himself to an unknown degree when his back is struck. This can also be accomplished by himself by applying sufficient pressure on his own back, such as jumping backwards into a wall. The clones are not linked in any way and can act independently from one another. At any point, the clones can unanimously fuse back together into their original form.
Each clone is smaller and stronger by a proportionate amount. This can be repeated until an Ekoplektoid clone is as dense as a blackhole, though this hasn't been tested for obvious reasons. The density and durability of each clone also increases with each duplication, to the point where a clone could easily survive at the bottom of the Challenger's Deep.
Weaknesses: Slapback was unable to control his duplicating power, as each strike on his back forces him to duplicate unwillingly. This became less of a problem as Ben and, by extension, Slapback, grew older. A duplication can be forced however, if sufficient force is applied, such as being dropped from a height of a hundred feet or more.
The combined weight and mass of each set of Ekoplektoid clones may cause issues to his surroundings. If enough of them get together in a certain location, their collective mass and density will be enough to create a black hole.
Since each of the clones have their own sense of individuality, Slapback can end up fighting himself if incensed. Furthermore, all of the clones must be merged together in order for the Omnitrix to time out to transform Ben into another alien.
Ekoplektoids can't swim.
Etymology: Slapback's name is a combination of the words "slap" and "back", which reference both his powers and an actual slapback, which is a kind of doubling echo with relatively long delay between repetitions of the sound; this allows the individual echoes can be perceived. This, in turn, references Slapback's duplication capabilities.
Trivia: The species' name could possibly stem from the Latvian "ekoplekt", which means "eclectic". This is a synonym for something that is diverse or broad, once again referencing the species' duplication capabilities.
Slapback's name was collectively coined by Kevin and approved by Gwen and Rook. Even Dr. Animo, whom they had been fighting at the time, agreed that it was a better name than some of the alternatives that Ben had proposed.
The Omnitrix is located on Slapback's back. CreaturemasterProds was originally going to move it to Slapback's belt, as with a majority of Omniverse transformations, but decided it was best to remain somewhat true to the Reboot series.
Unlike his appearance in the Reboot, Slapback does not wear a mask. They are instead natural, black markings on his face, like those on Arctiguana.
Ekoplekton was once a lush, tropical world covered in vast rainforests with an abundance of wildlife. This quickly changed when the Ekoplektoids evolved their duplication powers in order to get in edge over rival clans of their own species. Like army ants, they devoured everything in their path and in order to support their exploding numbers until the species had reached a point of unification. By that point however, the entire planet had been converted into a global metropolis in order to accommodate the population, leaving specially-designed biodomes as the last remnants of their planet's ecosystem. Because their numbers are so vast, the Ekoplektoids rely on a global subway system in order to get around, as they believe roads are a waste of space that could be better used for housing.
The Ekoplektoid species is one of the most numerous in the entire galaxy, due to the fact that most of their species are unable to properly control their duplication abilities. While each clone is exactly like its clones, down to a genetic level, this means that the population is continually growing at an alarming rate. To counteract this, the species has multiple 'holidays' where they see to the task of merging their entire population's duplicates back together, known as 'Unification Days'. These tend to take a very long time, as clones can only be merged with those that share the same DNA, making the process a rather arduous one.
Ekoplektoids are often hired out as work forces by species in need of manual labor. This has often led to squabbles between the two parties, as Ekoplektoids believe that any duplicate that is produced on the job should receive the same benefits as them, including pay. Naturally, this leads to issues with inter-galactic labor laws, which have yet to agree on a solution.
Ekoplektoids have no natural predators, as their tremendous numbers and extensive use of territory have driven them to extinction.

I only own this interpretation of Slapback.

Hmm, in Omniverse, he'd probably be about the size of a ten-year old. For comparison, he'd probably be a little taller than Ditto, who's about the same size (maybe. He might've gotten smaller in Omniverse).

I honestly have no idea what they're suppose to be, since Slapback has them in the Reboot, too. I like to think that they're display crests, like the kinds that hadrosaurs had or how some birds have elaborate feathers for display purposes.

Ah, that explains it. The only Fairly Oddparents references I know are:
"Uh, internet?"
"And this is where my trophy is - if I had one!"
"Dinkleburg . . ."
"FAIRIES/FAIRY GODPARENTS!"
"Disco?" "With myself?"
"I'm respecting your privacy by knocking first, but asserting my authority by coming in anyway!"
"Doug Dippadome, owner of the Dimsdale Dimmadome."

Armadillo's were (more or less) the inspiration for the segmented plating, but I don't think that's quite it. Pink Fairy armadillo's, sure, but I think it might also possibly be a prehistoric animal you're thinking of?

I think it's a pretty pointless power to draw so much attention to since any alien who has enough strength (Four Arms, Rath, Humungousaur) can already do that. It just really irks me that they're treating it as such a unique and brand-new power when it really isn't.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-02 00:05:10 +0000 UTC]
They don't have any. Whatever predators they might've had, they went extinct ages ago. Hard to compete with a species that can duplicate and gets physically stronger with each duplication. Eventually, they would able to pin it down and just kill it or start eating it alive, depending on what point of their evolution they evolved that ability.

I feel like one type of power that didn’t get taken advantage of more was aliens with ice powers. Yeah, there was big chill and Arctiquanna, but they just shot beams of ice or breaths of ice. They couldn’t manipulate ice. None of them were ever Iceman or Elsa level of ice powers which would have been cool to see.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-01 05:44:56 +0000 UTC]
Actually, Big Chill's made some impressive usage of his cyrokinesis, most notably in the Alien Force episode Above and Beyond when he was attacking Alan. But yes, for the most part, the two of them have mostly fired blasts of ice. I have an ice alien as well, but his is limited strictly to contact, so there might be a possibility for a 'true' ice alien in the future. The only problem is how to make that power seem legit and not borderlining magic.

ironlegionaire In reply to CreaturemasterProds [2019-11-01 13:39:23 +0000 UTC]
My idea for one was that they had the ability to manipulate the temperature around objects and could use that power to create things like buildings and objects made of ice. They’d use kind of swirling like motions like waterbenders or Elsa from Frozen. Their cities would look like the ice buildings in the North Pole in Avatar the last airbender.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-01 21:40:10 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, that could certainly work. Of course, that would also technically mean they would be able to raise the temperature of objects and make them melt/explode . . . maybe for the Ultimate form? I dunno, I just know that if I make that alien, someone's going to raise that point.

It also would have been cool to see more multi limbed aliens. Besides spider monkey and four arms, we never really saw any. An alien with six arms or six legs or even extra heads would’ve been cool.

Well, there's only so much the animation team can do. If you remember, when Ben 10: Omniverse came out, it was shown at the 'prime time' on weekends for its first couple seasons or so before being shoved into the Graveyard slot, a period so early in the morning, that no-one was likely to actually be awake to watch it. Less ratings means less budget, which means if they want to introduce new aliens on the show, they'r kind of limited with creativity, since the drawing and animation of extra limbs would cost more money.
That, and from a marketing standpoint, it doesn't work very well. Why do you think all of the aliens in the Reboot are all bipedal and extremely humanoid? Why do you think Wildvine and Stinkfly, previously some of the most alien-looking aliens, got redesigned so dramatically?
But yes, it would be cool to see those kinds of aliens.

Honestly, my generator Rex idea came from trying to design a Ben 10 Oc who had the ability to transform into animals, but then I worried that wasn’t cool enough or unique enough. Plus, I thought that if they could turn into human animals they might turn into alien animals which just became this whole thing.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-01 22:33:42 +0000 UTC]
Well, the main problem with that was the introduction of the Nemetrix and it's rules, that being a sentient mind is unable to properly wield it without going insane or suffering permanent, genetic damage. It's not that animal transformation isn't cool, it's just that in a show about aliens with powers and abilities far more powerful than just about anything Earth has, it kind of becomes . . . bland, I guess?
Really, though I think it works better in the Generator Rex universe, since that's comparatively low-tech compared to Ben 10.

I also considered a hawkeye type character whose a member of a race of hunter aliens with super senses and eyes that can change how they see ranging from night Vision, to far away vision, to being able to see heat signatures and the like. They’d have a bow and assortment of alien tech arrows.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-01 22:41:28 +0000 UTC]
That could work as a species, but as an Omnitrix alien it would have to be denied, since the Omnitrix doesn't supply weapons or tools - only things that will make the alien transformations less hazardous for the user or those nearby (and yes, I know I've done this a couple times; I'm trying to work those kinks out, but I don't usually have a lot of time).
What could work is if the alien species had a bow that was sort of built into their body. Imagine, if you will, a species who has at least one limb that has collapsible bones/cartilage rods/spines along its arm and a pair of retractable tendons/hairs/tentacles that could link themselves together to form the string. They could then use spikes/spines that they naturally produce, another biological agent from their bodies, or even material they find lying around to use as ammunition. All with the previously mentioned eye features to ensure that they never miss.

I meant this to be more of an Oc character than an omnitrix alien. And I honestly had a similar idea for a species who were naturally great swordsman. The watch couldn’t make them have a sword but anything they picked up they would instinctively know how to use as a deadly weapon. They’d have six sets of arms like an asura and be able to use practically any object as a deadly weapon.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-01 22:55:10 +0000 UTC]
Ah, I see.
I think a better idea, in that regard, is if the alien had swords for arms, like how Diamondhead can morph his hand/arm into a blade, but without the crystal-kinetic abilities.

Honestly that makes me think of the guy from that reboot cooking episode where those three chefs planned to eat wildvine. I honestly thought of an AU for that episode where the three are alien cooking champions in undertown trying to upstage each other and they try to use Ben as their main ingredient due to Florauna like wildvine being a delicacy to some species.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-01 23:16:24 +0000 UTC]
Well, I mean, their arms would already be swords/spikes and one their main weaknesses is that they can't hold or handle objects because they don't have hands. That, or it's difficult because their feet are opposable and thus behave as their hands, but this forces them to use at least two/four of their spike/sword hands to stand on.
That could work. Another possibility is that they know who Ben is and just want to eat him, thinking that heroes are particular delicious. That, or they know he can turn into any alien they want to eat and just want to turn him into that specific alien so they can eat him, rather than just Wildvine.
