This link from youtube might be able to help you [link]
you can also look on google for a walk cycle and make a plane and put an image you found on that plane as a material. Then animated the plane moving along side your biped and all you do is adjust your biped along with the image.

I know of a few things you forgot:
1) Renderosity.com--A very large art website that specializes in digital 3d art (but allows everything). They have a large Marketplace with sections for most major 3D programs, including ZBrush, Poser/Daz 3D, and 3DMax. They also have a ridiculously large freebie-link section and tutorials for most of the programs you've listed (and several you haven't). They also do periodic reviews of updates and new art-related products and extensive forums split up by program and subject.
2) You might want to mention that most Daz3D products are also convertible to Poser, and 35-50% of Poser products work in Daz.
3) Artzone. This is a community website run by Daz. It is not limited to D/S work or even digital; they accept all mediums. It also includes a significant tutorial section, which is also not limited to D/S.
Nice starting list! You might consider going around to those groups you list and asking the mods and members for more suggestions, too.

Thanks for the heads up
I am in the process now of cleaning up the lists to make them less cluttered a bit planning on making the free 3D animation I do have in there have its own section rather than being hidden away.
It should help me start fresh and provide more detailed description of the product as well as other useful info.
I'll probably get on to those suggestions you made after I clean some of the Advice's sections
feel free to look around at the other tutorials and suggest anything else or add any other useful information you might have.

You'd be interested to know that even DAZ|Studio can create models using primitives. It's free as well unless you want the Full Monty with rigging and the plug-ins. You also didn't mention Hexagon, Bryce, or Carrara... All DAZ products. Hex and Carrara were part of an Eovia buy out and Bryce was sold by Corel and is now in version 7 status.
Terragen is another you didn't mention...
My point is this: You're absolutely correct, there are a ton of softwares out there at all levels of entry from freeware to expensive platforms. Each software has its pros and cons and what really sells a software to a new comer in 3D is the UI and the options that let you do the sort of modeling you can wrap your brain around. Whether that is box modeling, using metaballs, combining primitives, using Booleans, or using spine modeling. Find a software you like and then go at it. Don't worry about who says what, especially in the beginning. It doesn't matter unless you are lulled into the elitist mentality that you *must* own one program over any other...
I've seen amazing models made in Wings3D and Blender that would rival models made in Maya or zBrush. It's all a matter of getting to know the software you decide fits you best.
Best regards!~

Quite few more I haven't heard about I'll have to add them to the list. I was only taught 3D max in school and didn't know about these free 3D programs in highschool.
I had went to school for 3D animation and character design in college and from what our teachers have told us its not about about what certain programs you use its about what the end product looks like. He is mostly a 3D max user but he uses a program called roadkill(free program I still need to add) help properly set up uv maps for texturing and he used just cinema 4D for body paint only. If you know enough about one 3D program the rest of the other 3D programs is just learning that programs method of performing the same task. Pretty much what you said really just use what you feel is right whether if you are using just one program to accomplish something or a few.
I understand what you mean by being "forced" to choose one program over another some people don't prefer 3D max cause they say its not "user friendly" but its just as easy to learn as any other program even though it doesn't have the nice interface that maya and cinema 4D has.
Thanks for the information this should help improve the tutorial

My pleasure... I use Maya, Hex, and DAZ|Studio when I feel the need to play in the virtual world. I prefer D|S just to prove that complex "organic" shapes can be made with primitives. Mind you, the mesh is a total nightmare to even look at.
I know quite a number of folks that love their 3D Max and a few that use Rhino... We all have our favorite "toys" to play with.
Looking forward to your tutes on 3D and hope you have a lot of success in writing.
