Yay! Got started with the mermay finally
it's gonna be such a ride this year! So much awesome art coming up people! Have shark-Kron enjoying some sunshine!
I was quite hesitant over the bubbles since I wasn't sure they look okay, however without them I'm not sure if the pic would look underwaterly enough.
So I just left them there, you may share your opinions whether that was smart or not.
Man, face in that angle is hard to draw....

Yes he is a sharkman :3 big, beefy and adventurous...
The water was a challenge I admit, the bubbles are still a bit of a "should I remove them" and I had to redo the surface a few times
but it was a great practice and I'm happy at least it looks like water!
Ah yes I'm familiar with the effect - first I thought I'd do something like that here as well, but I wanted this one to appear to be a little bit deeper.
However I didn't aim to have lilies or trees on the surface XD this is supposed to be the ocean.

Heya, I'm from Project Comment. So I think that this is just gorgeous. I am personally a fan of deep sea blues and all that implies. I love that yes, this is a merman. But he still maintains masculinity in my opinion. I think that's important. 😉 Your concept of both human and dolphin? anatomy is great. The muscles' formation is exaggerated but tasteful. Makes me wanna melt to be honest 😂 I love your merman's poae as well as his uplifted chin. It strikes me as strong and square, further implying masculine form. I love how you've drawn the sun above the water. Unless it's the moon. If so, I truly think it adds such an alluring touch. The schools of fish give a cool break up of the same shade of blue, so well done on that. I also noticed how you'd blurred the bubble in the bottom left corner. Good job! Sometimes when someone doesn't blur anything, it can come across as a cheap speedpaint. Now I'm wondering how long this took you. If I had to guess, I would've said serveral days at least, being that it is so detailed. I love how you did the dolphin fins. Their curvature is phenomenal, so yet again, well done. I also like your detail of I BElieve gills in the merman's sides. Are those gills? If so, I think that's very creative. Also pls give me a tutorial on how you did the sun / moon streaks through the water. Im begging! Lol. Nah, it's just really good.

Haha mermen are not very masculine are they XD but this dude is a shark man actually and yes his gills are on his sides.
The fishes around him were just a test but then they turned out looking so good I decided to keep them - the only thing I'm not sure sure about are
the individual bubbles.
Hmm actually this one didn't take me that long to be honest - some hours only since it's a rather rough painting.
If I remember right I finished it with one sitting XD If you want to see how I made it check the link on the description to the YouTube speed-painting video - there you can see pretty much my whole process. The sunbeams and water ripples were just simple effects on Photoshop.

That perspective with the sunlight above is just so hax!
About the bubbles, though. This picture definitely looks underwaterly enough without them. Usually in nature documents the air bubbles comes from the divers, unless of course you want to give the impression that the person seeing Kron above them is actually some sort of a diver with equipment and he hasn't noticed them. AH THE TENSION! >D

The fishes were such a random "let's try this - omg it works!" and now they are my favorite part of the picture!
I had an image as a reference with lots of bubbles and I kinda wanted to enhance the perspective with them, but you're right...they are a bit too much perhaps
but I'm too lazy to change it now XD

Aaaahhhh I'm finally back home so I can sit down and give some proper feedback!
The perspective for this piece is a lot of fun! There's something particularly magical about looking up at the sky from below the water. As far as the character himself goes, Lol Kron I can see up your nose!, I think you did a great job with the perspective. o3o You tackled a difficult angle to paint, but I think you did a great job with it and honestly while the perspective is difficult the over all simplicity of the piece with minimal details and the simple pose is a lot of fun.
One small thing, I almost thought this was a different character because of the tail. Sharks have tails that move side to side, whales and dolphins have tails that move up and down; Kron has an up and down tail in the piece.
And regarding the bubbles, I like the bubbles. c: They help add depth and a little extra visual interest in a beautifully simplistic piece.
You did a great job with this! I'm so excited to see more!

I've actually been pondering the tail issue - because many fishes swim side to side, but I think that looks ridiculous with merfolk
because they would most naturally swim like whales 0. o
So I've basically just winged it this far... perhaps gotta come up with a decision of how I'm going to work with it in the future.
Even here a little fix on the bottom part of the tail would do it...

This is gorgeous Irish! I think the bubbles are fine! It adds to the underwater scene very nicely. :3 Also I love how you did the sun's rays filtering through the water! And the fish! Wonderful work as always!
