Description kinda part deux of :thumb29768339: ....

wouldn't you interact with someone who smiles at you?

would you give someone yelling at you a real smile?

with the fucking eyes.

ya' know ...

well ... i know i friggin' wouldn't.

people who yell at me get the c-bomb dropped. guy or girl.

doesn't matter.

like the ungrateful bastard who i got rep'd by an agency who says, "dude ... stop making her look at you. i can't get anything."

he'd probably burned through a 1gb card.

the one thing about line shooters ... they don't care about making something interesting.

just the standard eye-contact-head-shot.

or 20 of them.

so ... what did i say to the ingrate?

"there's a reason you're back there ... and ... i'm out here. trust me."

fucked up?

well ... this is hollywood.

there are alpha dogs and dogs who lay at the ground spreading their legs.

dunno why i said that.

anyway ... this 85/1.2L ... i see with it the way i see with my leica m's. different ... but much the same.

i saw washed out with backlight.

focused on her left eye.

magical bokeh of some fucked up background that ends up looking cool.

bumping the contrast.

adding some noise to the noise that's alread inherent at 800 iso.

i can't believe how much i love this lens.

sadly ... the leicas have suffered ever since the new baby arrived as it were.

Visit my prints store !

canon e1dm2. 85/1.2L. 1/500th or so. f1/2. 800 iso. converted to b/w in ps cs with custom channel mixing actions. bumped contrast. adj levels.

Bravo, maestro!

You have just proofed the value of 1.2

again, you should train with a 0.7 - then, riding that bull would be a piece of cake.

my pleasure mate. hey our newspaper is changing from a hundred years of broadsheet to tabloid next week. Ask me how much I want out of there! That place is going absolutely NUTS this month and I am so glad the photographic work is starting to finally pick up. Hope to be free of news media soon for a few years break.

If I was a celebrity, and I was looking through the photos people took of me at premieres/parties, and I saw a shot like this, that said the photographer actually had an eye for the asthetic and wasn't just shoving through people to catch a glimpse...man, it would make my day.

But I'm no celebrity, and I can only say that I love this shot.

emoJIM [2006-03-02 10:57:48 +0000 UTC]

hey man.
I've been watching you're stuff for quite a while, and I just thought I'd say, you're friggin great.
I love your frames. Not because the subject matter is famous. Not because you have the nicest collection of cameras I have heard of. But because you show these people in such an organic light. In a way which shows what underneath everything, underneath all the tabloid bullshit, what they really are. People. Simple people getting along in this world just like the next guy. And I really admire the way you have gotten as far as you have by being so down to earth with these people and treating them as regular people instead of doing what alot of photographers do and treat them as a simple headshot. an object which will keep readers interested in thier shitty little gossip mags.
I really dont even know where I'm going with this, or why I'm writing.
I wouldnt mind finding out a bit more about you. I guess.
You're an amazing photographer.
Just keep doin what you're doin.

Cheers.

James

there's something arresting in this picture. the way she smiles at you in the moment when the flashes are lighting up for her in the background. an absolutely intimate portrait amidst the chaos of Hollywood.
a truly stunning photo.

btw, i'm pretty unfazed when it comes to Mischa. but even i feel the jolt when i look at this picture great work. great subject.

I really like the lighting in this. It's particular one of my favorites. So classic looking. Looks like it was shot in the 50s. Great job yet again. God I wish I had a Leica! lol I did get a new toy though, a Canon 20d. I finally made the transition from film to digital. It's no Leica, but I love it.

As soon as I saw this it really didnt look alot like Mischa Barton, it looks more like her after she has been rode hard and put up wet, but I have no idea what she has been up to nor do I care. Great shot as well as great focal point. I love the Blurred BG.
