it works when i use the white content holders, but i recently changed it to elnino and the right column came out sideways for some reason

I am putting in the columns and inserting the white rounded box with header inside the column code and it comes out all weird. The first box looks normal but the second box is below it and looks all squished. What happened?

Because you have to add the box separately. These codes just give you columns.

I'm not sure, to be honest! You're trying to put chatboxes right? In a custom widget the chatboxes would turn out really, really thin if they were put into these columns.
If it does work with the code, which it might not, you have to make sure the code of the chatbox is inside the code of one of the columns.
(What's the code you're using now? If I don't have a solution, I know someone else with way better coding than me, and he might be able to answer you.)

it's because the staff made custom boxes smaller, so, to fit the new size, they became narrow
